Hey beautiful bees,
So my wedding isn’t until October 2019, and I’ve been on a weight loss journey. I want to look and feel my best on my wedding day, and my work has been paying off. Unfortunately, that brings some confusion regarding the time frame of ordering my dress. I found one that I fell completely head over heels for, however, it needs to be custom ordered (not off the rack), and my measurements are always changing. How soon do you normally have to order your dress to leave enough time for alterations? Because I want to know when to begin maintaining my weight until after the wedding, rather than continuing to lose weight and risk having my dress not fit me anymore.
Thanks for your help!

About 9 months. They can take up to 6 months to come in in most cases, and then you need time for alterations.

Allow 6 month for the order (plus shipping time if it’s being shipped to you especially from overseas), then 2-3 months for alterations. I would aim to get the dress all done 3-4 weeks before the wedding. So that’s 10 months or so before the wedding!

Most bridal shops will recommend 9-12 months beforehand to allow time for the dress to come in, and then a few months time for alterations.

This is the dress I fell for! Thank you 🙂 I’m on a very strict clean eating diet. Lots of raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, things like that. I drink a gallon of water a day and I do lots of hiking!

As others have said, I’d order it 9 months to 12 months out. You don’t necessarily have to maintain after that if you don’t want though because there will be alterations. Probably just shouldn’t drop several dress sizes or anything. I would maybe ask them about how much it can be altered.
I lost 5-7lb right before my wedding accidentally due to anxiety (which is a full size on me because I’m under 5″3) and I just had it taken in a couple of weeks before the wedding.

Love your dress! Where is your dress from, OP? That also influences things.

I would ask the seamstress how much it can be altered. Some can be altered up to two dress sizes depending on the design. So you can order it at what size you are at 9 mos out and then if you continue to lose some weight it shouldn’t be too big of an issue!

I would ask the shop what’s the latest you can get measured to order the dress. I found it varies from place to place. Make sure you have a picture the style number and name of the brand to. Let the shop know what your planning on doing
