Something insane happened today — I bought my wedding dress! It’s a Jim Hjelm dress from spring 2011 in ivory chiffon. The style number is JH8105. It’s incredibly soft and ethereal and I just feel so amazing when I put it on. It has this insane cascade of ruffles down the back that just take my breath away. I knew I wanted something different, but not over the top. I think this dress definitely fits the bill.
My stepsister was super sneaky and took some stealth photos on her phone. I’m making some weird faces as I didn’t realize she was taking pictures. Also my hair was a hot mess… but otherwise here they are!
Here is the stock photo:
I first tried this dress on in California and totally fell in love with it. My bridesmaids wouldn’t stop telling me how much it suited me. We went to two very different bridal salons that day and I tried on probably 15 different dresses and this one definitely stole the show. The price tag, however, killed any possibility of me owning it. Talk about sticker shock!
Fast forward one week and I am back home in Georgia and I searched for this same dress in Atlanta. I thought perhaps it would be cheaper on the East Coast. I found out maybe 2-3 salons in Georgia carry this designer and I found one about an hour and a half from where I live. I stopped in with my one local bridesmaid and asked about the dress. They didn’t have it on hand, but said they would check on the price for me. Suddenly the consultant realized they DID have it but the sample was on sale for a crazy discount and it was still available. What luck! I think it must have been destiny. But I wanted some time to think about it first, since I wanted to be 100% sure I wanted this dress.
I tried on six more dresses, went to yet another salon to try on five more — still couldn’t get the dress out of my head. Knowing I had one shot to get my dream dress at a rock bottom price, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it. I have a little less than a year before my wedding. I never expected to find a dress so quickly, so now I just need to stop looking at dresses! It will need to be altered to my size and probably cleaned as well, but I totally love it.
I checked around online and on the Wedding Bee and I couldn’t find any real life brides wearing this dress. If any of you find one, please let me know! I’d love to see it on other people and see how they accessorized. I do know that I want to take the embellishment off the front and replace it with a sash with a ribbon down the back (as seen in the back photo).
What do you guys think?
