What a lovely story, bee. I have one of my own to share.
When I was a baby, my favourite aunt had a delicate gold bracelet made for me. I had always loved it (and her) and when I moved halfway around the world it was one of the few things I brought with me. Somewhere between the 3 or so moves since then, I forgot where I put it ‘to keep it safe’ and was absolutely devastated, thinking I had lost it.
The value, as you said, is in the sentiment. Years passed when on a holiday to Italy last year, I reached into a bag I don’t use very often and found a small pouch in a hidden pocket. It was my bracelet. I fell to the floor and wept for a full 10 minutes much to FI’s bemusement, I was so overcome with relief and joy. ^_^
