- Wedding: October 2015
I had such a special time trying on dresses yesterday — as a street size 16, I hadn’t expected to have so many choices to deliberate between, but it couldn’t have been a more positive experience. My consultant nailed it immediately. I’d worried that when I saw myself in wedding dresses I’d love the dress, but with conditions: “Oh, this is nice, but it’ll look so much better 30 pounds from now” or “Boy, it’s pretty, but I don’t do it justice.” The thought never crossed my mind throughout the entire appointment yesterday. There were no conditions or preambles, just me being myself in a lovely dress, just as deserving of happiness in my body as it is now as I’ll ever be in the future. What a powerful feeling! I’ll certainly keep on track with my workouts and managing my PCOS, but I never expected to find so much self-love and empowerment during wedding dress shopping. Who’d have thunk!
It came down to this lovely dress and a Lis Simon, but ultimately I chose this cotton lace and organza Essense. It’s pictured here in their ivory/moscato shade, but we ordered it in ivory/ivory. I never thought I’d feel so much like a ballerina! My wishlist was for something without sparkle or embellishment, appropriate for a luncheon wedding, something feminine and youthful that people weren’t afraid of hugging me in. And I can’t wait to get hugged in this, I’ll tell you!
So! D.C.-area brides of size 12 and above, I can’t recommend Cherry Blossom Bridal enough. What special people, and what a special day!
