Whenever I had pictured what I wanted to wear for my wedding, I had always envisioned a ballroom gown, not unlike Belle’s from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. I also did not know what to expect from my first experience of trying on wedding dresses. So, yesterday, when I went to try on wedding dresses for the first time, I was not expecting to find THE dress… But… I did!
I went to The Gown Gallery in Kansas City, MO due to an Alfred Angelo dress that I loved online. It was a part of Alfred Angelo’s Disney Fairytale Wedding Collection and it was beautiful. The dress was named “Cinderella” and it was subtle but beautiful! It had a sweet heart neckline that had the most beautiful beading as well as a subtle sparkle on the tool (skirt) of the dress. When I spoke with my consultant, she actually said before I even told her I wanted to try on that dress that she could envision me in it. Well, I waited with my mom and two sisters (who are both my maids of honor) while she went and gathered four dresses for me to try on.
The first was “Cinderella”. I had high expectations for this dress but the only word I could conjure up was… “Weird. This is so weird…” Finally, after the initial shock wore off I could explain how beautiful I thought the dress was, but there was just something off about it… I could tell it wasn’t the one. It was a disappointment because it’s the dress I’ve been looking at for awhile now, but that’s okay! I still had three more that were hanging right next to it and I believe the initial shock of seeing myself in a wedding dress had subsided somewhat. The second dress I tried on was also beautiful. But, I liked it less than the first one so I didn’t keep it on long.
Then we were off to try on the third dress! *Deep breath* This dress… it was breathtaking on the hanger! It had the most gorgeous beading and the skirt was beautiful! It was the first dress I tried on that had a corsett. Let me tell you… I LOVE the feel of the corsett. You just feel so secure and your posture improves so much! Anyway, as I was sitting there holding my dress at the waist so my consultant could lace me up, I just couldn’t get over how beautiful the dress was. I was in love with the dress before I even went out to showcase it to my sisters. The dress even fit perfectly (for now). I just couldn’t stop gushing about how gorgeous the dress was! It reminded me of Belle’s dress. There was no tool, just a beautiful satin-like fabric. I didn’t want to take it off! But, I still had one more beautiful dress to try on!
The fourth dress was absolutely beautiful and starkly different from the third dress. It had a tool skirt and a beautiful beaded bust. I liked it better than the first and second one, but I couldn’t tell if I liked it better than the first or second. Luckily, we took pictures of each dress. When I looked at the pictures of each dress on my, I loved the third dress on. My consultant suggested I try it on again (which I felt terrible about because it was a corsett dress you have to lace up). When I put it on, I immediately knew. The third dress was THE dress. There was just something about that fourth dress I didn’t love.
Here’s a little background about me before I tell you the best thing about my dress. I am an absolute Disney fanatic. In fact, my fiance and I are actually going to Disney World for our honeymoon! My nickname at work is Disney and I just love everything about that place. As it turns out… the third dress… MY dress… is part of Alfred Angelo’s Disney Fairytale Wedding Collection. This dress was designed for Princess Tiana from Disney’s Princess and the Frog! I was scared to ask the price even though I had put my budget was under $1,000. Well, it came in UNDER budget!!! You have no idea how estatic I am. It is absolutely beautiful! I am going to order in two months because I want to lose some more weight. They say they can take it in quite a few dress sizes, but I am kicking it into high gear! I have 11 months and two days, so there is plenty of time to lose some weight and get back into pre-surgery/injury body!
So, without further ado… here is my dress!
Now, we also found our bridesmaid dresses today! My sisters had quite a bit of fun, including snapping some pictures of the most ridiculous bridesmaid dresses we’ve ever seen. Some of there looked like they were right out of “27 Dresses”. Here are my two maids of honors (my sisters) in their dresses! Ours will be black though.
