My boyfriend and I have been ring shopping for the past several weeks, and his mom dropped a bombshell yesterday that she has several family diamonds that we are free to use for our engagement ring. Considering we had been shopping in the $2k price range, we’re still in a little bit of shock (and extremely grateful of course). Below is the picture she sent us last night. The only specs I know are that the earrings are 1 carat each – does anyone have any clue how large that center ring is?
Knowing that my boyfriend has two younger brothers, I’m a little worried that snatching up the largest diamond would be too greedy. I’m not even sure if it would make sense to have such a large diamond on my size 6 finger – but maybe I’m trying too hard to be practical.
If you’ve ever had an option on what family diamond/ering to accept, please let me know if you have any advice on what the proper ettiquette is. Also, I’d love any advice on which diamond I should pick and how to go about getting it set (I’ve already been told we can reset any of them). Thanks!!

Girl, take the big one. Go for it. It looks liek 2-2.5 carats. Thats awesome.

Hard to tell without specs. I like the largest, not just because of its size, but because it looks cleaner.

Wow lucky girl! I don’t think there is any etiquette here. You’ve been offered your choice and you should make that choice based on your personal tastes.
Personally, I would take the ring with biggest stone and not change a thing about it! It looks to be about 2.5 cts or even larger.

Normally, in our family, the oldest child got first pick. So, I would definitely go for the big stone. It’s beautiful!

I would go for the center ring and keep the same setting. It’s gorgeous!

I would take the large round ring. You wouldn’t have to change it and it’s very classic.

I like them all! Maybe take the larger one if you don’t plan on changing it. Take a different one if you plan on putting it in a new setting.

The center one is beautiful! I wouldn’t even change the setting! And who knows, the other siblings may want to design a ring out of more than one of those diamonds….or not want a diamond at all…or not ever get married. Pick the one you love the most. : )

You take whatever diamond you want! If his mother didn’t want you to have it, she wouldn’t have included it in the photo.

I don’t think you need to be practical. You’re first! Take the middle, but I actually like the current setting so personally I would just size it.

I’m not a big ring person but the big one looks like a really nice quality diamond and the setting is just…so so pretty. That’s probably the one I’d choose.

I agree with marriedalready69. She wouldn’t have included the big one if she didn’t want you to have it. and she may be holding others back for the other siblings. You don’t know. I would choose whatever is your favorite! Personally I like the big one and the marquis!

I would take the middle one. No need to reset it – it’s gorgeous!

Take the middle ring. It is gorgeoussssss and that setting is perfect, too!
