I have gone from deep thoughts and doubts about ever getting married, to a small glimmer of hope, to ENGAGED!!!!
I thought we were only in the very very beginning stages of this. We had talked about rings and paying for a ring, but I figured we were months out from that being close to a reality. Yesterday was our 5 year dating anniversary.
My boyfriend greets me in the driveway every day when I get home from work. Yesterday was no different. I got out, we said our hellos, and went inside. There was a balloon and card on the counter, as there usually would be, that’s how we set up our little gifts for special occasions. I walk over to the card and balloon, open the card and start to read. He said a lot of touching wonderful things, and I turned to look at him to give him a hug and a kiss. As I did this, he pulls out the ring box from his pocket and asks me to marry him between sobs. He told me he had spent the last hour sobbing while trying to rehearse what to say. Before I could even look at the ring I grabbed him and he hugged and cried for a good 5 maybe 10 minutes. Finally I stepped back and said, Wait! I didn’t even see it!!! He showed me the ring, put it on my finger, and the rest is history.
Don’t ever knock having a simple, sweet proposal. It never would have meshed with our personalities to do some long, big, drawn out proposal. Simple, sweet, and “ordinary” is both of our styles. I wouldn’t have asked for it to happen any other way. We went to his mom’s, grandparent’s, and celebrated with a quick dinner at Taco Bell 🙂 (the real dinner celebration is tonight with some family, and a personal intimate dinner this weekend).
I could NOT sleep last night!!! I was exhausted, slept a few hours, and was up at 3am as the adrenaline finally slowed down and I came out of shock and realized what happened! I got engaged!!!!
Here’s the ring. The photo was just a quick one we took right after it happened. As you can tell, I was NOT expecting this. No paint on the nails, and my fingers look pretty silly in this photo. But I don’t care because it’s not about my nails or my fingers, it’s about that beautiful ring and the comittment it means!
He had this ring completely custom made for me by our family’s jeweler. It’s a pave white gold with a round cut center stone. It was really cool, he said the jeweler said when we’re ready for the wedding bands he can make one and reset the pave diamonds to match whatever band I end up with. I’m so excited!
