- Wedding: September 2014 - Stevens Estate
So I had my wedding yesterday..I don’t have any recap pics yet but I’ll post some when I do. I just wanted to tell you all how unbelievably crazy it was.
So I got married at this big mansion up on a hill and we had the reception and ceremony outside. The ceremony was completely outdoors and the reception was under a tent. I knew that we might get a thunder storm later in the night, but when we checked the weather it was supposed to hold off until after the ceremony. So everyone coordinating the wedding there thought the ceremony would go off well, and if a storm came later it would be no big deal cause we would be under the tent which was huge.
We had the radio on listening to music as we got ready in the bridal sweet. As i was putting my dress on, and getting ready to make my grand entrance, we hear the emergency broadcast alarm go off over the radio. The thunder storm is now a tornado watch. I still thought we would be okay for the 30min of the ceremony though. So I walk down the isle with my dad all choked up and enjoying the moment. I see my husband at the end of the isle and I am so overwhelmed with emotion, that I don’t even care about the mean looking storm clouds behind us. So the ceremony starts and the wind all of a sudden picks up. Then thunder and lighting appear right over us. The reverend tells everyone to move into the tent so we don’t get soaked. All 120 guest move into the tent and we resume the ceremony.
Thats when shit got scary..real fast. The wind started blowing very hard and the thunder and lighting was intense. The tent we were in was one of those big industrial kinds that you see at a circus, not easy to blow around. But the tent started swaying so much I thought it was going to collapse. All of my big tall centerpieces started flying off the tables. All the glasses and silverware were blown off the table and were smashing all over the ground. Then we heard a loud boom and everyone started screaming, including myself. Everyone was scrambling to get inside the building. I couldn’t believe this was happening. We finally get everyone inside and settled down, and we finished the ceremony. But by then the power had gone out and the mansion was pitch black. I was so afraid my wedding wasn’t going to go on and everyone would have to go home. But my venue was awsome and got a generator there to power the tent. The mansion was still without power so going in was crazy cause the place is huge and trying to find your way around is tuff enough, never mind in complete darkness. But my reception was great and we all danced and had a great time. My caterer was awsome too. They brought all the food back to their headquarters, cooked it, and brought it back to the venue so we all could eat. All our vendors truly pulled through for us so we could have an awsome wedding, and we did. Later in the night we found out we were hit with a microburst which is like a mini tornado, and people there saw the tent pole get struck by a bolt of lighting.
Strangely enough, I would say the whole tornado thing made everything more memorable and I wouldn’t of changed a thing. Oh yeah and I’m married! That’s the best part!
