After a month of searching, trying on over 35 dresses at 8 different stores and weeks of agonising over wanting a dress that was way over my budget, I finally got the one!
I had seen lots of beautiful dresses but nothing that made me go ‘wow’ until I tried on a lace gown at a local bridal store. The style, lace and shimmering sequin and bead details were all perfect. It was also way over my fairly modest budget.
I could have just gone for it but it was so expensive that we would have had to cut back on another part of the wedding to afford it and I felt I just couldn’t justify the cost.
I couldn’t get the dress out of my head, but decided to be sensible and go for my second choice. However, just as I was about to tell my mother that I’d decided to go for the cheaper gown, the bridal store phoned me and offered me 10% off THE dress plus a free veil.
The 10% off the price-tag would reduce the cost but the dress was still several hundred over my budget even with the discount.
I was ready to cry. I just didn’t know what to do.
Eventually my mother suggested we try to find a different stockist and see what price they were selling the dress for. Luckily there was another stockist in a city an hour’s drive from my home.
I had my appointment with them this morning. The dress was still gorgeous and still too expensive… but then the sales lady offered to sell me the sample for exactly my budget!
The sample is pristine and they are having it professionally cleaned for me at no extra cost.
I am ecstatic!!! I love her so much.

@mistyeyes: Thank you so much! I just love her. The bottom is stunning, unfortunately, because I am standing on a podium in the photos (the dress is about 8 inches too long right now) you can’t see the way it will lay once it is hemmed to the right length. Here’s the model picture of the back of the skirt.

Thank you all so much. I’m just so stupidly happy, and relieved. I was beginning to feel ridiculous, especially since two other brides to be’s that I personally know had started shopping after I did and had both bought their dresses on their first day of trying gowns on!
To make matters worse in one store my Maid/Matron of Honor had jokingly asked my consultant, who was the assistant manager, if all brides were as indecisive as me. She expected her to laugh, instead she gave a stony faced, sharp “NO”. Needless to say I will not be recommending her shop to my friends!
@McFierce: Thanks! It does have an ethereal quality, it’s just sad that the photos don’t show how beautifully it sparkles when you move. All the lace applique is sprinkled with hand sewn ivory sequins. I think the pic below is the only one that gives an idea of what it is really like in person. My family called it my fairy princess dress when I walked out of the changing room. I think it is the dress that the little girl in me has always been dreaming of!
