Maybe people are waiting to give you the gifts at Xmas?

@Ember78: Lots of vendors back in my hometown have reported theft at weddings. From the couple and their equipment.

I’d be worried and want to verify before assuming because of the Thank You cards!

Hoping for the best for you!

@MerryWidow: This is still awkward though… If you had intentionally not given a gift you would have felt really weird saying “Nope didn’t get lost,  I just didn’t get you anything”… which might be the position OP is in.

On the subject of theft of cards:

I am not sure if it is done in the US, but in Canada a common way to transfer money is through email money transfer.  At our wedding, we received a card with a slip of paper inside saying we were receiving an email money transfer for $X, with the password.  The next day they emailed the funds straight to my spouse.  They did this because they had once had a card go missing with several hundred dollars worth of cash (or a cheque, don’t remember).

It was a great solution, much safer!  We also loved the fact that we didn’t have to arrange going to the bank, not losing the money in the meantime, etc.  I highly recommend this to people!

I’m sorry 🙁 It is possible something happened along the way, maybe stealing… I’m not sure.

We did receive gifts from dH’s family that did not make it… however his immediate family gave us absolutely nothing, leaving at least 7 people with no gifts.

I hope this clears up but that really stinks! :/

Also:

I agree with the 1 year rule… we got one present in the mail within this past month of the wedding. That’s it.

I think a lot of people who think they have a year to get you something usually forget. But that’s just my personal experience.

@PinkMagnolia:  It does NOT sound awful, our family has the same ‘rules’. We all give the same. No $100 for one cousin and then $50 for another—it’s equal.

@nonapkns:  I normally buy gifts for people whose wedding I do not go to *after* their wedding is over (and I can view an ‘updated’ registry) but I ALWAYS have the gift sent within a week of their wedding. Period. This is how I do most weddings actually because I live 15 hours from my friends/family and I can’t get home for most of them. I also can’t afford much, but I try to always spend at least $40 :-/  So far it seems like everyone has been happy with that, but if you’ve been married a while now it seems just rude on the part of your friends/family….period. When I was the Maid/Matron of Honor for my bff, I spent all the money on everything and STILL bought her the bedroom set she wanted (comforter, sheets, curtains, etc) on her registry. I think it’s inexcusable for a wedding party to not come bearing gifts! That’s just me though

We received gifts from 50% of people.  i don’t expect to be receiving any from anyone within a year of the wedding.  I hate that it bothers me so much, but I do think that it’s because I would never in a million years show up to a wedding without a gift.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that is how many presents I’m going to be getting. It’s upsetting because we really don’t have anything, and I know both our families are capable of purchasing SOMETHING, but they refuse to buy presents most of the time, and pass it off like they are broke. Oh well. You are married, that’s the best thing. Now you can buy whatever you wanted. Lol
