- Wedding: January 2013
For some back story, we are having a very hard time deciding how to get married and S has been very difficult to deal with. We have it narrowed down to 2 ideas and have been debating back and forth for quite a while now. We have flirted with a range of ideas and have gone back and forth over and over again. It has been quite brutal.
Well last night he came to me and said that he is going to give me $8000 and I can choose which ever plan that I want to do!! I am sooooo excited! But I love both ideas equally. Let me know what you think of each.
Our guest list consists of 40 people and I am looking to hold an event that every one will enjoy. We plan on getting married next January. We live in Canada and it can be pretty cold that time of year. But we both love the winter ando love to go snowmobiling.
1. Elk Ridge lodge – it is in Northern Saskatchewan. About 4 and a half hours from where we live and about 9 hours for my farthest guest to travel. The event would be held in one of their banquet rooms. They would supply the meal and alcohol. The alcohol is going to cost us a bit more because we have to pay the lodge’s rate which is about 5$ a drink. There is also an extra 5% tax because it is in Saskatchewan. (Alberta’s tax is 5%, Saskatchewan’s is 10%). One of the down falls is that the rooms cost about $240 a night and I feel Like that is a lot of money to ask our guests to pay, seeing as they would have to stay a min of 2 nights and the closest town is 40 mins away. Which they could stay there if they wanted. If we do it I will have it as an option. But then I really don’t want them drinking and driving. They have a ice skating rink, a pool and a tobogganing hill. Which would be pretty fun for some neat pictures, let alone that it is in a beautifully Forested area. We both love the out doors. Oh and they have a spa too. Our guests would have lots to do exploring the grounds in its self.
2. Edmonton – We would hold the ceremony at Mutart gardens. It is basically like a bio dome and they have tropical flowers growing there all year long. It would make for some beautiful Pictures. Then we would hold the reception at the Mayfield Inn. It would be in a ball room there. It is a very beautiful place. edmonton would give our guests lots of options about where they would like to stay. Let alone that the mayfield is fairly affordable. We would be able to supply our own alcohol and charge as we please for it. It would be right in the center of my guests so the most they would have to travel is 3 and a half hours. Some of the down falls are that our guests would have to do some driving through the city to get to each part of the event. Another is that S (fiancé) really doesn’t like the city all that much.
I guess the big question is do we go for Elk Ridge which we both love but is going to cost our guests more to come and stay with us? Or do we go for Edmonton which S doesn’t like but will put up with because he loves me and it will be less expensive for our guests? I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.
