I always assumed Darling Husband had proposed with a spur of the moment, just because we were there type deal.
Then, I realized why he proposed where he did…aaaand, I feel horrible for thinking it wasn’t well thought out (though I’ve never SAID that to him, of course).
When Darling Husband and I first started dating, he took me to a national forest/lookout point that is well known in our state. It was romantic, sweet, he charmed my socks off, and all that jazz. While we were walking, I said to him in passing “I’ve always wanted to find a ring. You know, like on the ground or something. Kind of like lost treasure.” I’m a dork, I know.
When Darling Husband proposed, he did so at the same place I mentioned that I’d like to find a ring (I hadn’t thought he’d been listening, and I didn’t mean what I said seriously!). How did he propose, you ask? Oh, yeah. He took me to the lookout point that was prettiest (IMO) and sat me down on the edge of the overlook. We were talking and chatting about nothing in particular, and then he scooted around me sneaky-like (I thought he was trying to stealthily remove a wedgie, LOL), and then began FREAKING OUT. He was frantically searching in his pockets and around him for his truck keys. He then asked me to look around and see if I could find them. Lo and behold, when I turned my head to the side where he had been, an open box with my beautiful ring was waiting for me. I turned back to him to find him on one knee with tears in his eyes.
He had taken me back to the place where I said I wanted to find a ring someday, and he let me FIND MY RING there. Oh my god. I’m tearing up, because I never even realized that he had picked that place and proposed like he did just for me and with so much thought! 🙂 OH GOD, I CRY. haha.
Has your DH/FI/SO done anything super thoughtful and you didn’t realize the effort until later?
