Today is my last day at my job and I was thinking about it this morning and how my job situation is/was a lot like my waiting to be engaged situation.
My work has two types of employees: fixed and regular. Regular is just how it sounds, a regular employee. Fixed is where you still get benefits but you have an end date. I’d say around 30% of our workforce is fixed. It’s basically like being a contractor but you get benefits and you are paid through payroll. I left a good permanent job for this one with the understanding that I would be switched to permanent within a few months (their words). Well, a year went by and my contract ended so they extended it for 3 more months, they told me that it wouldn’t expire again and I’ll get my permanent offer before then. Well, it expired and the policy is that you have to go to month to month after you have had a year and then a 3 month contract. So I went month to month.
After constantly being promised my permanent offer month after month, I set a deadline for myself. If I didn’t get that offer before the end of 2012 I will find a new job. The end of November rolled around and I talked my boss and she couldn’t promise anything so I decided to look for a new job. I ended up getting a job offer the day after an interview with a great company and it’s an amazing offer. I start Jan 2nd.
I have to say… it feels damn good! Granted, I did have some other stresses at work but I’m so proud of myself for sticking to my work walk date and not putting up with their empty promises anymore.
I don’t really know what the point was of posting this… I just kind of came to the realization this morning and it kind of amused me lol.
