Not so great.
I got home and fiance was like-um, no. I dont like it. ME: Ok well what about it dont you like? HIM: I can see it on your face, I dont like it. Its too much. ME: ok, well, you have to wear more for photos because I always look washed out and ghostly in pics.
HIM: I think you normally look pretty. ME: UGH!
So I dig thru the computer and facebook pics to show him how the flash normally takes away from my color and my inspiration pics so he could see the look I’m going for and he said, that looks nice on them but I dont know, I like your everyday style better. ME-what, wait, we are getting a pro photographer and I’m the bride!? I didnt say that, but I wanted to.
I went back thru the recaps section here and found some good looks and new inspirations and then went to the DIY make up search here on the hive and found some tips from other bees, spend about an hour in the bathroom and I came out with the natural non smokey eyed smeared pale browns and pinks and he LOVED it.Again, you could tell by his face lighting up.
So-I guess I will be doing my own make up the day of.
SIDE NOTE-He also said extensions are dumb, that I should just wear my hair down, and that I’m pretty without all of that. So this changes my WHOLE wedding day look. He wants it down, and I mean like down down. I put it in the side pony w/curls and stuff so he could see and he said that looks nice. I took it down (curls still in) and his face lit up-and he said wow, you’re so pretty. Ok, so I guess I’m also wearing my hair down-ish. Now if I could figure out how to get wavy ish curls to stay all day and still use my giant fabric flower! :/

I think it’s sweet your fiance prefers you not being all “done up”. Part of me wants to say “it’s your wedding, do what is going to make you happy” but at the same time, you want your fiance to be happy with the way you look. I’m sure if your hair were down you could pin some on the side with the flower.

My fiance is the same way, he wants my hair down too. I am going to put it up for the ceremony and then take it down for the reception to make us both happy! 🙂 As for make-up, he doesn’t really notice anyway! He says I look best without make-up… of course, I look like I’m 12 without make-up.
Make a few compromises, but on the day of, he is going to think you are GORGEOUS no matter what!

My husband said the same thing about my makeup during the trial.

hmm, I’ll have to think about it. Sorry for the blurry and awful pics (and excuse the mess, we’re remodeling :/ not advisable during wedding planning).
and heres my work:
note-his eyes totally lit up w/a great big smile on the last pic, lol.

@babbot: oh i totally prefer your DIY job better! If you look that amazing with your selfie shots, you’ll look STUNNING with a pro photographer. I love your hair with the fabric flower too. LOVELY. The curls are so nice! You could always get your hair done professionally if you wanted to feel a bit special on the day? They do amazing things with curls and spray and that way you’d only be DIYing your make up! WOW love the whole look. DIYing your hair will also save you money 🙂

I like your DIY as well, much more natural

I love the DIY but I also really like the side pony!!It is soft and romantic but still styled. I don’t have long hair so I am nowhere near an expert but could you do the side pony for the ceremony/pictures and take it down for the reception (or vice versa?).

I know he prefers you more natural (men always do), and you are gorgeous with amazing bone structure, but I think for the photos for your wedding at least you will want a little more make-up! You DO NOT normally need much but honestly mayeb a little more blush and eye makeup? Flash is so harsh!

For what it’s worth, your stylist could do that look if you told her that’s what you want, but if you’re comfortable with doing it, I totally agree that the DIY look is more flattering.

Just piping up as a stage makeup artist & a hobbist photographer…. your photographer’s flash is going to be worlds different from yours. It isn’t going to wash you out as much as you suspect it will. also there will be post processing & they’re going to be adjusting color, contrast and saturation anyway. For professional pictures, you don’t need to be “done up” like you think you do.
If you were under stage lights, yes. You’d be need to made up like, and this was the words of my makeup teacher, “You’ll need to be made up like a french whore.”
But for photography, not so much.

Your DIY makeup is much better IMO! You could probably go a little heavier on your lashes to make your eyes pop a bit more but the professionals was WAY too much!
