@Bebealways:  That’s awesome! YOu should share your playlist – I know I scoured Weddingbee for song ideas when we were engaged!

@Bebealways:  Great advice! Definitely things I wish I had known. The music was something I left entirely in my sister & groom’s hands, & low & behold, it was one of the only fixable things that was totally jacked up.

But, many of our guests left far before the dance part even started so having a DJ might not have been worth the money anyway.

My best advice? Invite friends who are going to make your night fun, & not necessary distant family who will only come for the food out of obligation.

Thank goodness it worked so well for you! The last THREE wedding I’ve been to have had AWFUL DJs!

One refused to play more than 45 seconds of a song, and another one kept wandering away from his station and playing the same songs over and over! We heard the sae country song 3 times!

(We took 20 people in a party bus out dancing at a club after our luncheon reception, so we had a free, pretty good one! Drawback–our first dance was to “Sexy Bitch”)

I keep going back and forth on wether or not we really need a DJ for our older crowd, 50-person, all couples wedding. No kids and only a handful of people between 15-30. Thank you for making this iPod DJ concept more realistic!

I’m also not going to have a DJ.  Glad it worked out for you.  You were so organised.  I think I’ll group the playlists as well. Thanks.

I am a long-time Wedding Bee reader and received so much great information from the bee in the lead-up to my wedding. I thought it was time for me to provide some post-wedding advice. My husband and I knew we didn’t want a DJ for our wedding—we love music too much to give up that much control. But we also wanted to enjoy ourselves and not have to spend the night checking-in on a traditional playlist.

We set-up an app called LimitList. You choose a library of songs for your reception, but then your guests get to vote on the song they want to hear next. It also has a photobooth feature that takes a picture every time a vote is cast. We have around 500 amazing pictures from the iPad alone! People were on the dancefloor all night and our guests raved about it afterwards.

Thank you so much for this! We just decided this morning to go DJ less. This is the best way i  have ever seen it shown!
