My heart is broken. She was my almost-13-year-old German Sheperd Dog who was perfect in every way. She was my fur baby, my pookie princess. She was truly a member of my family; she came everywhere with us, including on vacation. She was going to be the ring bearer in our wedding…and she was actually the kind of dog who would walk perfectly down the aisle by herself and then just lay down and chill. She was the absolute best trail dog – we climbed several mountains together and she loved being outdoors. I’ve had her since she was 7 weeks old. About a year ago she was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy and over the past year has lost function of her rear legs. She could no longer stand up on her own. It just tears me up inside with guilt because she was perfectly healthy otherwise, and when she turned to smile at me you could totally forget there was anything wrong with her at all. I know her mobility meant she was no longer living the life she loved, but she was such a fighter that I feel like I robbed her. I just miss her so much and can’t stop crying. The house feels terribly empty without her fluff butt.

It’s a very difficult time when we have to say good bye to those we love. Give yourself permission to grieve and time to heal.

So sorry for your loss, bee. I had to put my dog down 6 years ago at 13 after she developed kidney failure. It still makes me cry when I think about it, but I also have many happy memories of her and all the joy and laughs that she brought to our family. Sending hugs.
