I made the mistake of responding to a group text while I was groggy and out of it this morning and now I’m getting texts like “Who is this?” because the original texter sent one of those stupid group texts. That option should be banned on phones, it is the worst. Does anyone have an irrational hatred of this cell phone function?

@MrsStayPuft: Omg I hate it as well! I think the reply should pop up as “reply” and “reply all” like it would in an email client.

That happened to me the other day! My dad sent a group text about his health (he had to go to the emergency room and found out that his sugars were over 600) to me, my brother, and some of his friends that I dont know, and I didnt notice that it was a group text, so I got all these texts back to me asking who I was and wtf I was talking about. Haha.

@MrsStayPuft: I hate it tooo..because then, I get tons of responses from people who didnt know it was a group text and argh.

I hate them! We have one for my staff, and this one girl last year would just respond all the time with an unnecessary one word response or a smiley face. Or people just start chatting through it. I always set my group texts to never vibrate or ring regardless of my phone setting because I hate the notifications.

I love them! in some instances. like to keep up with a few of my best friends who are all really close, but we never get to see eachother much. it’s nice to feel like we are all conversing.
But in the situation you described, yeah that’s beyond annoying.

That happens to me all the time because my dad insists on sending group texts out to his ENTIRE contact list. A few weeks ago he sent a video that he found on YouTube out to everyone. He and his friends like to send each other disgusting things just to make the other person mad, so one of his friends including in the text sent a message to everyone on that list a disguised link that opened to some man flapping his giant penis all over the place. I never open my dad’s videos anymore, so I just ignored the whole group message, but my 17 year old sister opened the video by accident. Boy did my dad’s friend hear a mouthful from her LOL.

I actually really like it! My closest girlfriends from college and I have a group text that’s been going for over a year. We’re all spread out, so it’s a nice way to still communicate as a group and catch up. We probably have about 20 or so messages come through each day.
However, when it’s used just to blast people mass holiday greetings, I do find it really annoying.

@MrsStayPuft: I hate group texts too, but I think moreso you should hate people who don’t understand simple technology like that, haha. if they did, they wouldn’t be texting you!

@MrsStayPuft: FI’s family started one right before vacation. They would do a countdown every day until the trip with silly gif’s and pictures. It was fun then because we were all excited to go. This was in August – and consisted of FI’s mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, two cousins, and his best friend (who’s basically part of the family). To this day, it still goes on. Sometimes…… I JUST DON’T CARE! LOL. So annoying!

@MrsStayPuft: Group texts would be fine if EVERYONE could see that it was a group text no matter what their cell phone provider/phone type. I have an iPhone so I can see that it’s a group text when I get one, but I get random texts from people on the group text hours later. It makes me wonder if they are legit texting me. I don’t send them (if I want to hit a large audience, I use FB messages), but Darling Husband does all the time, lol.

I hate group texts, too! People reply hours after the conversation is over.
