I saw that on FB the other day. Absolutely ridiculous. If she is plus sized then what am I?

@menzies:  Sorry, I don`t get how you can say Size 12 US is Plus Sized.

(Altho you can say that they use Size 12 Women to photograph for Plus Sized Clothing… which is what I am claiming they did… see my post above)

But seriously, NO STORE is selling Size 12 in their “Plus Size Department” (hence not plus sized)

Cause if they did there would be a total frickin melt down by North American Women

But the most important thing to remember about Lawley? Her body does not define her. “People use me as a figurehead, and to me that misses the point and is blatantly offensive to thin women,” she recently told the Guardian. “Curves don’t epitomize a woman.”

@This Time Round:  Plenty of stores in North America sell size 12 as the starting size in plus-size departments and stores aimed at plus-size women. A handful still start at size 14. Google it – even on the first page of results, it’s a mix of size 12, size 14, and one website which starts at size 10 for plus-size. Not saying it’s cool, but it’s the truth.

She is certainly plus-size for a model – mainstream models are very, very small. She’s a lovely, very healthy looking woman, but as a model, she is plus-sized.

@kittyface: Wow that is a first for me… and I`ve been in plenty of US Malls over the last year… and am yet to run into this.

But you can be sure I`ll be googling.  That is just sooo awful… I mean seriously…

Standard US Size 12 = 5-4 to 5-8 Tall = Bust 38.5 – Waist 32 – Hips 41.5

This is PLUS Sized ???  … that is ridiculous.

It is also the MOST COMMON size…

Women, time to speak up.  This is crazy we are ALL now being shamed about our bodies…

I certainly won`t be shopping at any stores in the future that put Size 12 in the “Plus Sized” Category or Department.

@amandasouthcarolina:  Man… That’s ridiculous. So anything other than a size 0 is considered plus size? Zipping up my mouth now.

@Mimoza:  in aus, a 16 is a US 12-14, probably closer to 10, I’m an Aussie 10, US size 4-6, so it’s safe to say there’s some discrepancy of what is and isn’t size 16. I agree with you all though – she is beautifully sized and definitely  not what I would call a plus sized model. I think she looks super fit and healthy. Actually, she looks healthier than I do – it’s time for some sun and exercise for me I think! Haha

@menzies:  In that picture she looks more plus-sized (for a model, yeesh).

I agree that those first pics look photoshopped.

Thanks for loading the pic, sure gave me a confidence boost since her and I look the same size, or close.

I thought that the reason plus size clothing companies use size 8-12 models is because sales dropped when they chose to use actual plus size women?

Models are human clothes hangers. They’re not supposed to look like the average person, they are supposed to look like a fashion drawing – tall and very thin with extreme proportions. It is difficult to see the shape and movement of a garment on a model with hips and boobs. I can see exactly why she is considered plus-size in the fashion world, she looks to be about a size 12 and is totally not suitable for runway, maybe a lifestyle magazine.

hmm, very odd. I mean she isn’t model thin, but I would not consider her plus size either!

I think being a plus sized woman and being a plus sized model are very different, with the latter being much smaller than what’s actually considered ‘plus size’.
