@Laurenplusalex:  I’m not job-hunting right now, but I vividly remember my longest period of unemployment (after moving to a new town) to be the most profoundly soul-sucking experience. I kept a spreadsheet of jobs I’d applied for, follow-ups, interviews, all that junk. Oh man.

Yay for callbacks! Get it, girl. 🙂

@Laurenplusalex:

Job hunting is rough, BUT you might get an opportunity where you least expect it. It happened to me years ago when I applied for a part-time job as an elder caregiver. I had a full-time job at a call center, but wanted to supplement my income. I applied at an office that was managed by a man & wife. They were expanding & although they needed caregivers, they needed an office person more. I went in to apply for a part -time job & ended up getting a full-time job 5 minutes from my apartment & that paid more than my other one! I didn’t have any office experience, a degree, or anything beyond typing skills, customer service skills & a basic knowledge of the internet. Four years later when I left, I was an office administrator with enough skills & job history to get me into an even better job!

It can happen for you! A lot of it is just being in the right place at the right time & having a good work ethic.

ME. I’ve been underemployed for almost a year — and I’m really over it. I keep interviewing, following up on interviews, and always end up in the top three. ALWAYS. But I’m never the magical unicorn that gets picked. I ask what I could have done differently and always get we loved you but the magical unicorn was just slightly better.

Ugh. Have another interview this Friday.

@annifer:  THIS.

@Laurenplusalex:  Fingers croseed! When is your interview?

I’m also job hunting right now. I HATE IT! I sometimes feel like I’m that annoying person selling something from door to door, and that “something” is myself. I’m not happy with my current job and I really want a new one but the searching process and the interviews make me feel more like a product and less like a person.

@somethingblue04:  This is good advice (re: 80% credentials). I’m currently in transition as well so I will take that into account.

@Laurenplusalex:  Ugh. I am. It’s so disheartening of a process. I’m a hard worker, I’m smart, have good experience, and have an advanced degree. But I’m just out of school so I still get the “well, you need more experience!” response. But how do you get experience when no one will give it to you? If something doesn’t come through sometime soon, I might pick up a part time retail job so I feel that I’m contributing financially in some capacity.

@Laurenplusalex:  When’s your interview? It’s already afternoon here in Europe so I’m crossing everything crossable for you too 🙂
