Maybe I am just still upset because the “hem” on the dress, which cost me $150 on its own, looks like she hacked at it with a pair of scissors she stole from a kindergarten class. My BMs who were with me said I kept my cool really well, but now im starting to replay it all in my head and I am NOT happy with how it looks at all
This is it down, she cut a lot of the tool off the train so she could put in less bustels, apparently
Is this how a bustel is supposed to look?

It is a very poor over bustle, you should have maybe asked for a under bustle?

@Nel13: I don’t think there is anything wrong with it, i think you look beautiful.
But, if you are unhappy with it than you need to tell the bridal store and tell them what you want changed. You are a paying customer and this is a one day experience, and it needs to be perfect. Don’t feel bad.

I don’t like the bustle, either. Ask them to do it a different way.

I definitely see what you mean about the hem job! And you’re right, the bustle is too low, and spaced a little bizarrely.
I would definitely bring it to a (highly regarded) independent seamstress, and see what she says.

I would ask about doing a french or underbustle. I dont like how the bustle you have hides all that gorgeous lace! It also kind of adds to your hips in the front, which makes me think they did it wrong?
Tell them you would like to see different options. 🙂

It’s quite a big dress, my mom is a seamstress annd is here with me, she says if you try to do something else, it’s going to look like a big wad of tulle on your butt and make it difficult to keep your balance. Good luck with it!

The tulle looks uneven when it’s not bustled and when it is bustled, it looks very sloppy. I would demand that it be fixed and that the tulle is “cut” better

Can you ask her if there is anything that can be done to make it look less a mess? to me its just all over the place and the second I move it moves and looks even worse.

+1. I will also pretend I didn’t have to look up what a bustle is 😛 But now that I know, I’m pleased I can agree in an informed fashion.

The hem in the pictures is after she fixed it! She said… well its harder when your not in the dress, we just do it while its on a hanger not a 3d model. It actually had notches in it… like when you cut fabrics really fast with dull scissors….. omg I…. I dont even know what to say right now.

First the tulle is stiff Once you were the dress a little bit, it will relax some. The pics are hard to truly see for the issues with the hem. An under bustle would be hard for a tulle dress because it’s going to look wadded up (think about wadded up tulle)…they could put the hooks a little closer but we think it’s the way it is so you don’t have a TON of tulle sticking out your backside. For pictures sake, they are doing you a favor. You could also steam the dress a little and that will relax the tulle as well.

I think your best bet is to find pictures of bustles on similar dresses – I imagine there would be many different ways to bustle a dress like yours. If you find some pictures of what you want, then show them to the seamstress and ask them what they can do – there are a surprisingly large number of ways to bustle a dress and the seamstress will usually just go with a default option unless you tell them otherwise.

My skirt was heavy and required a bustle like yours to hold it up. An under bustle just wouldn’t do. Luckily my seamstress was fantastic and was able to cover the hooks with little bits of lace so the look still manages to be seamless. Would something similar work for your dress?

Did they do a 3 point? Meaning that it comes up in 2 different spots? That very different. I worked in bridal and i dont think i have ever seen that before. I dont think an under bustle will work at all with that kind of dress because of all the tulle. i would take it back and say your disappointed and demand to have it redone right. maybe show them a pic of how you want it. heres pics of an under and over bustle so you get an idea of what they should be like. the under one is ovibously just quickly done but gets the idea accross. but yours as an over buslte should look more like the top pic
