Call the store. SInce it was saturday, they may not have placed the order with the designer yet. Call and see if they can cancel it.

I think it’s beautiful on you, but you have to love it.

@JLR1982:  Call and ask if they actually ordered it already. They may only place orders on specific days of the week. Definitely worth calling and double-checking!!!

You do not look huge at all. It’s gorgeous on you!

I’m not sure if letting the bottom gather out will dramatically change the shape of the dress.

I do think you are being very self-critical. I think you look great and this dress shows off your curves. The neckline is great on you, too!

I am no seamstress but the gather looks removable to me. I actually think you look really pretty in this dress but if you’re unhappy about it, you could try showing the picture to a seamstress to see whether she could remove the gathering?

I think it’s very classic and elegant, but if you hate it, definitely call the store asap and ask them if they can cancel the order. If they tell you you’ll have to pay a penalty or lose your deposit, then you can consider whether it’s worth it just to take the loss, or go through with the order, sell it when it comes in, and just keep looking for another dress in the meantime.

@JLR1982:  Oh it’s a beautiful dress, but I kind of see what you mean.  You have a very pronounced hourglass shape going on in that dress.  I’m thinking right off the bat you should get a shaper for your hips/tummy, they can do wonders to smooth everything out (not that you “have” anything to smooth out, but will help the dress fall more smoothly).  I don’t think the gathers can be removed, but maybe a really experienced seamstress would have more suggestions relating to that.  Otherwise I would think of other things you can do.

Here’s what I would also do: well first you said it has a belt?  I see some sparkly lace at your waist – is that it?  Is it the same color as the dress?  Since you like it, I would order the belt in a contrasting color (like your BMs’ dress color) and get something going on up top: a big gorgeous necklace, extra bit of lace or ruffles, etc.  The goal being to draw your eyes to your top half instead of to the gathers at your hips.

And for the record I do NOT think you look huge.  That dress is beautiful, and since it is non-refundable I would do the best I could with add-ons/accessories 🙂  Good luck and don’t feel sad!

I don’t think you look huge at all, I think you look beautiful in that dress! But, if you’re really unhappy you might have a few options:

1. Call the bridal store and see if they can cancel it since you only just ordered it, or work out some kind of deal where you exchange it for another dress that they sell

2. Try selling it right away. If you have the specs it’s worth a shot

3. Buy another one and just hope that the dress sells, even if it sells after your wedding date

4. Give it a chance!! Once you’re all done up with hair, makeup, and accessories you might really like the look! Do you trust the opinion of the friend who helped you pick it?

If you are unable to change your order and still dislike your dress when it arrives, what about considering some type of loose, flowing, lace and tulle or organza overlay that could be added to the entire skirt portion of the dress to give it a different silhouette, while still allowing the silhouette of the fit-and-flare to be visible, but with a softer look? I’ve seen a couple of absolutely atunning dresses like this on WB, where there was a more fitted dress underneath but an A-line, lace and organza style top layer of the skirt, and I loved them.

Oh sweetie, I think you look beautiful, and not even the least bit “huge”.  Your figure looks lovely in the photo!  I think you’re being too harsh on yourself.  That being said, though, this is your one and only wedding dress…so it is important that you feel happy with it.  I think you should talk to a seamstress about your concerns.  She may be able to reduce or eliminate some of the aspects of the dress that you dislike, and you may end up feeling completely different about it once it has been altered!  A bolder-coloured belt might drawn more attention to your tiny waist, too.  Good luck with whatever you choose to do!  You will be stunning on your big day.  🙂
