I have hated my dress since buying it months ago. I can’t seem to sell it to be able to get something else I love, so have been trying to see how I can make it into something I at least like. I came across this photo of the dress altered and a sash added.
No idea what it would cost to alter the dress to a sweetheart or get a sash. Does anyone know how costly it would be to alter the neckline?
Also, what do you think? Is the dress better altered to a sweetheart and sash added or is it fine the way it is?
Here’s me in the dress
and the photo I found online.

I LOVE the neckline the way it is. I would not change it.
But definitely add a sash. The one in the picture is not your real dress is it? because it looks a little tight…
But it is beautiful 🙂

Man, this is a hard one! I am not usually a huge fan of sashes, and I *love* scalloped detailing, but the alterations in the second pic really work for this dress! Somehow it seems to make the bust look less busy, which I think really helps the overall effect. I’d say go for the alterations.
Maybe add a poll to get a better idea what others think too 🙂

The way it loks now is great….. but id say if u have the time and the money it might be worth altering, exp if u think ud like it better

I like the top as it is, but the sash is a great idea, and there are tons of different ones out there, so you can really find one that matches your vision and adds something to the dress. Also, other accesories can work wonders!
I had dress reget too but it all works out in the end, I promise! Judging by the picture, there are lots of pretty details in that dress! It’s lovely!

@sheilamelo: haha yup that’s me in the dress a few months ago. I have lost 15lbs since then so it fits much better. Guess I should change the pic title 🙂

Leave the top but add a sash it will be beautiful!

I love what they did in the second picture!

Honestly, I think the dress was made to have an empty space on the torso, hence the pretty heavy lace everywhere else. Adding the sash to it makes it look busy. I think it looks better without.

I meant to vote for just add a sash. I voted leave it as is. Sorry! I LOVE it. I think it is beautiful, and I like it wayy more on you and with the top as is. The sweetheart kills the dress IMO. I think a sash would be nice, but I don’t like the one on the second picture.

I think the key here is that you said you HATE the dress as is. Although we may like it that doesn’t count if you don’t feel great in it.
If you like the sweetheart neckline and the sash-DO IT!
I think the dress looks beautiful either way, but the important thing is that you have a dress that you LOVE.

are you kidding?! that dress is all sorts of amazing!!! i loooove it. swoon.

I think it actually has the same neckline but they just cut away the scallops of lace… could be my eyes playing tricks on me though….

Love how it looks in the second picture. Makes the dress look more elegant and streamlined.

I think it looks gorgeous as-is, so I’m hesitant to suggest alterations. I think you have to decide what YOU really prefer. As far as a sash goes, is there something you really love, like, for example, sequins or lace or crystals or pearls or a particular color? Or silk, or a particular pattern like paisley or ferns or polka dots? Maybe a sash that played to something you really love would help pull the look together for you.
