I hate my ring

I think you should just tell your fh, without drama or criticism, that you’d prefer to change out to a plain setting. Go together to the store in person. The jeweller can use your setting toward the cost and you can look for a diamond band.

He probably just combined what you told him. By The Way I have almost the exact ring as you, so I’ll show you how it looks with my band… if yours also has a round base then you’d be right about it not fitting flush with a straight band. But there are pinch or bowtie bands that will allow it to fit flush, the jeweller could also custom make you a band… another couple options.

I have a similar engagement ring and I wear a straight band with it.  That said, I’m not into a matched set so I like it. A pinched band like the one Tiffany and Co. sells would look perfect with your ring.  However, it sounds like this setting just isn’t your cup of tea.  Changing the setting might be your best option.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the style of ring you wanted. I think it’s really beautiful, and I actually love the taper and how delicate the bnd looks, but it’s yours to look at every day, so you should like it. From what you’ve said, though, it’s not the ring itself that bothers you so much, but what type of band you think you’ll be able to wear with it? Have you tried on any bands yet with it? Maybe a “bow” style wedding band would allow you to get the fit you want without a gap. Something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/220196620/bow-wedding-band-channel-set-wedding?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bow+wedding+band&ref=sr_gallery-1-5&organic_search_click=1&frs=1 would put a little metal between it and your e-ring so the bling wouldn’t be overwhelming. Or, instead of diamonds on the band, maybe a vintage style band with engraved floral design would still give the visual interest without doubling up the sparkle since it sounds like you don’t want that.

Or perhaps the jeweler could raise the mount a little higher so you can put a band right up against your e-ring.

I think you’ll know what you want to do after trying on bands.  Good luck!

I also have a low set diamond and I tried on the Tiffany Harmony band this past weekend and it did not sit flush with my engagement ring. However, I wear two “straight” bands with it and they sit pretty close and the gap is minimal.

polkadots12 :  My ring is similar and i adore it! I got a custom wedding band made with platinum balls/diamonds alternating and love them together. I got the band a bit wider than my engagement ring diamonds! I think if you don’t like the ring, tell your fiance, but there are a ton of diamond bands that would look gorgeous!

Your ring is beautiful! But if you really hate it, I would just tell your fiancé instead of trying to find a wedding band to work with it that you might not love. It’s an expensive piece of jewelry that you’ll have to wear forever, so you want to make sure you love it. Don’t tell him you hate it, but that you envisioned something more simple and that will allow you to have a flush band.

Similar thing happened with me! I wanted a simple pave setting, but fiancé got me an intricate setting with a twist and decorative cathedral. I just told my fiancé I envisioned something else, and he was fine with it. I also paid for the changes.

You should talk to him as he might be able to return/exchange it. Plus, the setting is usually the cheapest part of the ring, so resetting it shouldn’t be so bad.

Hahaha… You basically have my ring! Just goes to show, everyone has their own taste. Sorry you don’t like it, I think it’s gorgeous!!! I’m having a custom band made that’s curved so that it will sit flush. I love that the band tapers because I think it puts the focus on the center stone. But if you don’t like it, get it reset! Should be cheaper actually because of the lack of side stones.

I think it’s a beautiful ring and I’m sure you can find a band for it that will sit right, but if you don’t like it none of it matters. Talk to your fiance about that. Sure it’s a symbol, but it’s also a piece of jewelry that is there for your daily enjoyment. You deserve a ring that will make you smile everytime you look at it.

I would be open and honest with your fiance. It’s the only way to start a relationship towards marriage.
