wow, I would be so annoyed with her.  I too, can’t stand one-uppers.  I once had a friend tell me “I hope you get married first so that we can make our wedding better.”  She got engaged and married first, and now I get to make OUR wedding better…mwuahah.  But seriously, be proud and happy of what you have and try to ignore it.  People like that are insecure and annoying.

@Bostonsmom: O deah. Yeah I understand the frustration- look at it this way, eventually Im sure she will tire herself out with all this one upping in her head. You just gotta lay back and let her do her thing- everyone will realize that her insecurity is like a big red sign. In the end, you’ll be better for it, because you will do whats authentic to who you are, and not in accordance to what other people around you are doing. And that is a great thing ๐Ÿ™‚

I was about to type, “well go and have a bigger better wedding than she did” but I automatically thought, “she could always one-up and have a vow renewal ceremony.”  This is probably going to keep happening with her.  The way I deal with people like this is to ignore it, and I found that ignoring the behavior actually makes them more upset because you cut away the attention and reaction they crave by their action.

I can’t stand people like that! All you can do is ignore her and laugh.

Is she one of your BMs?

I don’t get why women act like this!!!!!!!!  Men would never do this, it makes the rest of us normal women look bad!  She definitely sounds insecure, and as annoying as it is, I would feel sorry for her that she can’t be satisfied with what she has… try to shrug it off..

Yeah, I totally feel you.  Sorry about your frustrations.  My mother is a one-upper. Unfortunately there is no way to “top” them, you just have to grin and bear it.

@europomme:  On WB I’ve read some really interesting threads on Groomsmen behavior with men competing on how they’ll propose, ring size, etc.  Haven’t seen this in real life yet, and I wonder how much of that is initiated on their own or, in part, coming from their better half. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Bostonsmom: Okay so first off, LOL at the lemur thing. Jesus….

Wow, that’s so ridiculous and beyond annoying. Sorry you have to deal with a Future Sister-In-Law like that. I have to deal with a Future Sister-In-Law who is queen of passive aggressive comments which can almost be just as bad. In the end, I feel really sorry for your FSIL’s husband. She pretty much told him after that short time the diamond he gave her initially wasn’t worth a nickel in her mind after seeing yours. Imagine what else he has to deal with… whew!

Sorry again, issues with these peeps is uber frustrating. Hope it gets better for ya.

@MissHoneyBun: haha so funny! I haven’t seen that one, but from now on that will be what I think of when someone says one-upper.

@Bostonsmom: I’d be so annoyed. She sounds so incredibly insecure. Unfortunately there’s not a whole lot you can do. Undecided

Maybe my stepmom and your future sister-in-law are related, ya think? Deep breaths Hon, and try to find your peaceful place where she is mute and powerless.

I say this but of course I have just ranted in a post about my own one-upping evil stepmom…
