I would hate that too. We do dirty santa and it is 10000x times more entertaining than gifting good gifts. We try to one-up each other every year and see who brings the most outrageous gift. I look forward to that much more than getting actual gifts lol. Maybe you bring it up next time you see his family or have Darling Husband bring up the idea of dirty santa?

You married into the family, these people are your family now too so you need to get to know them- that is your own fault. When you have kids you plan to just trust them around these strangers? LoL

OP’s issue is not her DH’s family- it’s the fact she always gets SO’s of her DH’s siblings. SOs can come and go so I don’t blame OP for having a problem buying for them.

We do secret Santa at my job and what we do is have a price cap, and also everyone is required to write down 2-3 ideas of what they want within that price range so people aren’t stuck guessing.

I got a wax melter and wax for our white elephant this year at work and it was a hit. They also have gift baskets with liqour and a coffee mug or glasses. I’ve seen them with Baileys and Rumchata. I’m always grateful for fuzzy socks as a gift! Ties would be a good generic gift for a guy. Maybe a gift bag with a blanket, a new movie, and some popcorn?

Maybe suggestion for each person to make a list. The list csn have specifics or hints or favorites lists can be kind of fun. Like each person can answer fin questions  like those Facebook things. Coffee or tea? Favorite color? Etc.

Our work used to have us fill out a form with things like Favorite colors, Do you collect anything, Hobbies, Favorite Candy, Favorite Scents, Favorite Animal, Allergies, Things you absolutely don’t want, If you like beer/wine/coffee/tea/hot cocoa, Favorite Stores, Clothing sizes, Favorite music, etc.  It wasn’t like asking for something specifically, but it made it fun to shop for strangers when you had those clues.
