I’m the type where I’d probably keep my mouth shut if I were proposed to with a ring that I didn’t like – but then again, it depends on how different from my tastes it is. It’s time for a sit-down with the fiance and explain that you’re not rejecting him, that you appreciate the time and effort he put into finding your ring (don’t ever tell him, ‘you didn’t spend much time on shopping for it anyway.’ That’s only bound to kick up the defensiveness). Give him a date and a time for when you want to go looking again.

He may be embarrassed because he’ll have to face the folks who sold him the ring – it’s sort of an admission of defeat. “Yeah, we’re here to exchange the ring…she didn’t like it.” Is it possible you could take the receipt back yourself and exchange it for something else you like?

Or, in the meantime, grab a cubic zirconia ring to wear in its place.

Alternatively, you could just pick out your wedding bands together – you can get your dream ring then. You can shelf the engagement ring after you get married and only bring it out for special occasions.

I was proposed to in our living room. I saw it as apart of our story. We own our home and I can tell our kids this is where it all started. I wouldn’t want it in any other place.

@shrubfish09:  OP that is SO great that you learned to like your ring! I think it’s modern yet traditional all at the same time.

@samarti4: insensitive and rude. This is an open forum to talk about how you’re really feeling. Take your negativity somewhere else.

Pathetic.

At least you were fully dressed! When Fiance proposed, he was giving me a back massage (oil and everything) because “I deserve it”. He laid the ring in my hand and when I turned over he asked. The part that I leave out when telling the proposal story to everyone except very close friends is that I was completely topless because I was expecting a massage with a different happy ending! LOL!
