I just called him “my man” for our entire engagement, lol. Way less foofy.

beachbumm105:  Same here haha!! I always referred to him as my Fiance but saying boyfriend or husband felt more natural to me. Fiance always seemed so fancy. But Darling Husband had no problem calling me his fiancée at every opportunity LOL!

I never liked it. Don’t think I ever used it in real life. Even now that we’re married, I tend to use “partner”.

I don’t see the big deal. I call him my fiance, because that’s what he is. If people want to read into it as pretentious, that’s their problem.

beachbumm105:  I also felt awkward when when calling my (now) Darling Husband “fiance;” I pretty much felt all the things you did.  You are not alone!

Yup I hated the word! Everytime I said it I felt like I had to add, “And we will summer in our chateau this year” in some phoney accent. I can barely try to say croissant properly without feeling a heel, let alone introduce the guy in flip flops and denim shorts.

When titles change, you definitely feel odd about it–because it’s a big change.

When I got promoted, I was uncomfortable about being called my title for at least 2 mnonths.  Then I got used to it.

When I got engaged, I still kept calling my fiance, my “BF”, and I still do sometimes.  Now I just say “my other half” just because that feels more personal to me.

🙂

I think I’ve said “fiance” twice for being engaged for two years haha.

JulietFoxtrot:  thank you. I’ve been using it thinking I’m saying a shorthand of fiance. Never mind! future intended is actually rather sweet. I like that.

I’m so glad to see that so many people feel the same! I feel so awkward saying “my fiance”. it does feel like I’m rubbing it in people’s faces or something (even though I’m not and I’m sure they don’t feel like that). I just try to use his name whenever I can.

I hated saying it when we were engaged, but now that we’re married, I totally miss it! Enjoy it while you can! You won’t be engaged forever 🙂
