beachbumm105: Got engaged in october. I’ll introduce Fiance as my fiance (or he will for me) ONCE when we meet someone new who doesn’t know me/him, then reference each other by name or say bf/gf from then on.
Its the one time fiance rule we apply to every situation. Some times we don’t even use the rule and just say bf/gf from the get go, people can see the ring i wear or if they dont, it makes no difference to me haha, i know im marrying him – thats good for me.

beachbumm105: I call him by his first name or my fiance. Im not going to call him my bf cause I think after proposing he deserves better than that and Im not calling him my husband until the wedding ceremony is done.
You can call him your Feyonce 😆 puts a funny twist on the “pretentious” fiance lol 😁

The tables are switched for me–I actually would prefer to use the term “fiance” when we get engaged. Personally, “boyfriend” sounds like we’re both 15 (and since I’m almost 30/he’s over 30) it seems too juvenile; while “partner” I loathe because it sounds too ambiguous (is he my business partner? partner in a law firm? my bio lab partner?).

I think it sounds pretentious too. I’m not sure why. Really though, whatever his actual title, I think of him as my partner.

I avoid it too. Don’t know why, it just sounds breathlessly girly to my ears. Fiance uses it though, and I do get him cards with “fiancé” on. It’s just in normal conversation, I use boyfriend
But only 6 weeks and it’ll be husband!

beachbumm105: Oh my gosh. I thought I was the only one too! I hate the word. I call him my boyfriend, but he hates it. He thinks I’m downing the seriousness of our relationship. So sometimes I try and throw in fiance every now and then, but I don’t particuarly like the word.

beachbumm105: I feel the same way for some reason, even though my intention is never to throw my relationship/engagement in anyone’s face! I refer to him by his first name when talking to people that know him/know his name, because that’s more comfortable.

Agreed. Never got on board with fiance, still said boyfriend. Now adjusting to husband, we dated for 7 years before getting engaged, I blame it on old habit!

Me too! Still just say partner. Can’t wait to say husband!

beachbumm105: My husband hated it too! He called me “the woman I shall marry” haha.

RobbieAndJuliahaha: I always think of that episode when people say fiance.

FantasticFawn: Yes! People still congratulate me when I say fiancé. We’ve been engaged over a year so it feels weird.

I’m probably going to get scorned for this, but I already call him my husband even though we won’t make it official til September. After we had our child he just started calling me his wife and I went along with it. It’s been 3 years since then and we are finally making it official lol. Fiancé just feels strange to say and boyfriend feels too young.

SithLady: Ditto, I can’t hear the word ‘fiance’ without picturing that scene with Elaine 🙂
