Backstory: I have a Tumblr that I’ve had for since my freshman year of college. I mostly use it for funny pictures, interesting stories, wedding ideas, and to document my life. I don’t post anything horribly personal or that I wouldn’t want an employer seeing.
So today I got this message from a follower I’ve never spoken to. It said (almost verbatim), “Why are you in a rush to get married? It isn’t a race. If your fiance loved you, he’d wait until you were both older and you should be AT LEAST 26 because I’ve known a lot of marriages that were young and ended in divorce. So wouldn’t you rather it be a break up than a divorce?”
I’ve gotten the simple “Why are you getting married at this age?” question before and that’s totally fine by me. I don’t mind answering innocent questions. But THAT guy really set me off. And when I replied and told him that I found his message offensive, he kept going! I finally started getting fed up and told him it wasn’t his business. In his third (and last) message, he told me to stop PMSing. I blocked him right after that so he can’t contact me again.
UGH I just can’t stand people like that!

OMG, what is it to that person. They need to get a life. Just ignore them sweetie.

what an asshat. just ignore people like him. you cant reason with insanity.

Some people are haters, they want others to be miserable with them. It’s a good thing you blocked him!

@mepayne: What a misogynist twat! Not that I’m being judgmental or anything 😉
I cannot stand it when people pull the hormonal bs card. If it wasn’t for someone going through that, they wouldn’t exist. Most guys couldn’t deal with what women go through on a monthly basis!
Another case of ‘boys are dumb…’

That’s so annoying. I was 22 when we got married and we’re still doing fine 2 years later. No end in sight!

What a doofus. Honestly, just try to think of it in another light… He is spending his time on Tumblr, finding people to put down. Bitter much? Yeah, probably. Plenty of people get married at a younger age and do just fine. Since when is he the all knowing POOBAH who decided the “best” age is 26? Not dissing on anyone getting married at age 26, but it’s when it’s right for you, whether that’s 20 or 90.

Thanks ladies! Glad to see I’m not crazy and/or overreacting. I couldn’t believe he had the nerve to say something like that as if he actually knew me.

Sounds like he was just being a jerk and trying to get to you. Bullies like that usually have sad lives–like they need to be mean in order to provoke people into interacting with them. Sorry he was such a jerk! He knows nothing about you, and blocking him was probably the right thing to do.

The anonymous nature of the internet can be such a pain in the a**! From tumblr to here, people can certainly feel the need to criticize or bully others. I say don’t sweat it! Those statistics are accurate about the decrease in divorce rate if you wait until mid twenties (psych/theatre major), but statistics are just that. They don’t apply to every individual and it certainly isn’t the right of some stranged to tell you how to live your life. For the record Im an early twenties engaged bee as well. Congrats on your engagement!

lol, Tumblr asks are ridiculous.
Ignore it. A random Tumblr follower doesn’t know you, your Fiance, or your relationship at all.

Stupid Grumblr on Tumblr.

@StuporDuck: Haha I think I’m going to start using that one! There’s a lot of grumblrs on Tumblr, so maybe it’ll catch on.

There’s an old internet expression: “Do not feed the trolls”.
i.e. He’s just posting to get a response out of you, and almost always the best thing to do is to ignore him (and block him) so he doesn’t get the satisfaction of seeing any response.
Anyway. sorry you’ve had to deal with that, and all the best for your wedding and marriage.

He was probably 14.
I love me some tumblr, I’m totally addicted, but there are definitely a lot of young teenagers on there. And as we all know, teens know everything. ;P
