SlyVixen:  I have heard that bees won’t sting you if you stand still and don’t whack at them. I’m not sure if it’s true or not. Mosquitoes are the bane of my summertime world.

SlyVixen:  Suicidal bee!

MissTNBookworm:  I’ve heard that too, so when one landed on my 2 year old, I was like FREAKING OUT and I wanted to go save her, but I just stood there while she played in the water and it flew away. Oh my god. It was scary. Damn bees.

MissTNBookworm:  I don’t know if it’s true for other people but I’ve always practiced this rule and have never been stung.  In grade school all the girls would be screaming and flinging their hands around like fools and they’d get stung, I just sat there calmly and let the bee crawl around on my arm for a while, it’d get bored and fly away.  They really don’t want to sting you, it’s literally a suicidal last resort.

SlyVixen:  What a ruuuuude little sh*t stirring bee. I bet you it’s already RSVP-d to some other little bee’s wedding this weekend too, and now that it’s pulled this suicide stunt it won’t turn up or send any apologies. The rudeness will just continue. Unbeelievable.

I’ve heard that mosquitos gravitate towards people that eat a lot of bananas. No idea if the same is true for bees (although I can imagine some perfumes might attract them). Are you a banana lover?

That looks so painful!

I actually love bees. Or at least I did until I found out how much they hate me. I got stung once. I didn’t even see it, but somehow it got stuck up my trouser leg. Ended up in hospital. Found out I’m allergic to them. So whilst I don’t flap about when they come near me now, I do panic inside.

jennmariee:  I haven’t been stung since childhood and I also don’t go crazy when they get near,so I guess that’s a pretty effective rule 4 the most part.

SlyVixen:  Sounds like “your” bee was just being a jerk. Have you ever heard of putting chewed tobacco on it to heal it faster? It makes my stomach hurt just to think of something so gross, but some people swear it works!

SlyVixen:  Could’ve been a wasp. Wasps actually go after you where bees don’t. I do a lot of gardening and observing of these little buzzers. We had a wasp nest we just sprayed the heck out of. As awful as wasps are, they are necessary for pollinating. Too bad they can’t be as nice as bees.

Miss_Mae:  The honeybee is the only bee that dies after stinging. Not all bees do. Bumblebees are more common where I live so I thought I’d mention it.

I have never been stung by a bee or a wasp and I’m terrified of them! I could be allergic and don’t know it.

IDK about this theory. I was gardening a few years ago, minding my own business, when at least 20 bees came out of nowhere and stung me, promting an allergy to bees that I never had before. I couldn’t breathe, it was no fun. when the first one got me, I was calm, had been stung before, no biggie. I didn’t swat it. Then out of nowhere…. A swarm.

So, BEE CAREFUL.

MrsCallalily:  That’s an interesting point! I’ve only been stung once when I was a kid. I guess we wouldn’t know we are allergic until it actually happens! My neighbor has an epi-pen maybe he’d let me borrow. :o)

My run in with wasps. I am highly allergic and ended up at the dr…two epinephrine shots, benadryl, and breathing treatment later, I got to go home. This wasn’t even the worst of the swelling. I also got hit 5 times on my arms.
