Shopping online is such a mind-f*ck I swear! You find these awesome deals and then get to check out and you’re hit with crazy shipping costs! It pisses me off to no end. I KNOW it doesn’t cost that much to ship something because I ship things usps and ups all the time… they’re just doing it to make extra money! (And yes… I always google coupon codes but for some of the smaller stores there just aren’t any available).
Fabulousfeathers.com – Great prices on peacock feathers. I was so excited to find them at .45 each… until I went to check out. $15 flat rate no matter what you order. Great if you’re ordering a lot! But not so much if you just need a handful of feathers.
Paperlanternstore.com- $9 for shipping 2 lanterns. Flat. Come ON. If all of my paper (which was big and heavy!) can be delivered from paperandmore.com for 3.99, why do lanterns which flatten out to nothing and weigh less cost $9?
Ugh. Rant over(ish). Anyone else have this problem with online shopping?

I totally hate shipping costs. The worst I’ve heard of was when my mom was looking at favors and decided to order samples. She got $20 worth of samples I believe and the shipping was either $25 or $30. That’s so unnecessary. And I totally always Google coupon codes too!

Sorry you are having issues with shipping charges. I also do a lot of shipping and I know it does cost more to ship than some people think it does. It depends on the type of item, how much it weighs, the size of the package, the carrier, and whether or not the shipper is being charged additional fees. A lot of companies use outside suppliers to ship their items and those suppliers charge the companies additional handling fees. It is very frustrating for both the customer and also the business. A lot of companies lose money on shipping and others just mark up the price of the items to off set the cost of the addtional fees.

Where’s the like button? I can’t stand online shipping costs! I paid 7.99 in shipping for maybe 4 oz worth the fake rose petals on Ebay.

Oh girl. Try living in Hawaii. lol ;-D
See if you can at least get some of it back through Ebates. Sometimes I have luck with that!

Yes, and I have a rather long address so when the company gives the address to UPS or Fedex (fedex is worse than UPS about this); then they end up dropping my apartment number from my address and then they hold the package and won’t let me pick it up, so I have to contact the vendor and then they have to get ahold of UPS/Fedex and okay them that I pick it up or give them the fixed address. I hate the shipping fees too, I’m like wtf why is it $15 to ship something that light and that small? I try to use USPS, they are technically slower but seriously, I get stuff faster with them and my stuff always goes through.

@nqz100: ugh i hate that! I remember once I was going to order a nighty or something from VS and it was 1 skimpy thing… you could’ve shoved it in a sandwich bag. They were going to charge me $13 shipping! Sorry… but f that. I did not order. They just kind of have me over a barrel on these things bc it IS cheaper than going to the store. but I’m disappointed that so much of the discount is eaten up by shipping charge.
(And yes I know it seems petty to be annoyed about $9 or $15 but I think we all know there are a LOT of little elements in a wedding so every $5 and $10 bill really adds up!!)
@littlemissmango: lol I’ll bet! But you DO live in Hawaii so at least there is an up-side… I’m in Ohio… haha. What is ebates?

@CorgiTales: The only reason I gave in and did it was because I only paid .99 for 2000 rose petals. I think 500 cost as much as the shipping at Michaels.
On a happy online shopping note, though, I just won our desert serving set (brand new) off there for 44.00 inlcuding the shipping. It was 20.00 off what it would cost at retail and without the headache.

My personal favorite – I cannot for the life of me remember the website, but I was trying to order small plastic bags for the bulk stuff we wanted to repackage to put in our Out of Town bags. In addition to ripping me off for shipping, the site also wanted to charge me an additional “small order fee”. To which I responded, “Hi, stupid online store. Screw off.”

@CorgiTales: lol yeah when I lived on the mainland I felt like shipping costs were less justified…sometimes they are so ridiculous! Ebates is like a online rebate program where you can get cash back for purchases from a bunch of stores. I used to use Bing Cashback until they dropped it, so then I found ebates instead. But I just used it to order our halloween costumes and I got 14% cash back, so that paid for the shipping costs! Worth a shot. Also check out retailmenot.com for coupon codes. I got a free shipping coupon from them for another recent order I made from a store that usually charges me ten bucks shipping. Sneaky! Gotta love bargain hunting! 🙂
