It looks like the envelopes are square, which does mean that they cost $0.20 more to ship. Did you take them in to ask how much they would be before you mailed them? It is really stupid that they don’t always enforce the rule (seems like it should be always or never right?) but this is a pretty common problem unfortunately.

They look wonderful, but I say just try and find 2 extra envelopes, they might not be the perfect size, and just use regular stamps, To tell you the truth I doubt those 2 people will care!

Why don’t you just add stamps to the existing envelopes and resend? If you’re worried about the red stamp, you could cover it with a regular white label, but honestly, I think it’s fine. The invites still look really pretty 🙂

@MrsMaine: I’d be frustrated too if other invitations were mailed without a problem, but these two were.  So ridiculous.

@MrsMaine: You can just email me my invite 🙂 Can you get envelopes from the card section of CVS?

@MrsMaine: that is super frustrating then. they need to train their people better!! i hate the post office. The reasoning i’ve heard for the .20 surcharge is that when mail comes in it gets sorted by a machine and a computer reads the addresses off of the cards to sort them into where they need to go. Somehow the machine is able to sort things so that they are always sitting with the longest side down so that the computer can read the address. With square envelopes you get a 50/50 chance that they will be facing the right way to get through the machine, and if they don’t get through the machine because the address is facing the wrong way then they need to be hand sorted, and that is why there is a .20 surcharge.
