This could be nothing or it could be very serious.  Good for you for finding it!  I highly recommend switching to an all-natural deoderant.  You’d be surprised how much aluminum is in your standard brand and it could be just enough to make your lymphnodes freak out.  I hope this is nothing, really, I’m sorry you’re going through this!

I hope it’s nothing, but its definitely good to get it checked out! Lymphnodes swell and go down again all the time so hopefully that’s all it is!Good luck!

I have actually been through the whole “I have a lump” thing and had it be bad (not life-threatening bad, but definitely not great).  However, good nodes and bad nodes feel different to the experienced hand.  Your doctor will be able to tell a lot by how it feels, so if he doesn’t order an ultrasound or biopsy, don’t freak out.  I can’t tell diddlysquat from feeling mine, but all the doctors I’ve seen can tell pretty easily.  Also, my bad node was rock hard, stayed around for two months, and then brought a friend; it wasn’t just a random arrival.  Nodes come and go all the time and that’s totally normal, so try not to stress too much!  I have a cold right now and can find at least five swollen nodes and all are perfectly fine…just happens!

Good luck 😉

I’ve had little lumps under my arms from time to time and they have always freaked me out. I’m the kind of person who always jumps to conclusions as well, I want to race to the doctors and say “look what I’ve found! Help me!”, but when it comes to your underarms there are soany reasons they get lumpy. Shaving, deodorant, if you’re coming down with a cold because you have glands under there. I think it’s good that you’ve got a doctor’s appointment and that it’s a few days away because you have that safety net, but it will more than likely go down by then. Mine always have and I worried about them excessively and there was no need!

Try not to worry – I have health anxiety and my therapist has taught me to draw up a pie chart of all of the possibilities of what my worry might be, and it being something serious is always the slimmest slice of the pie! Try putting it to one side for now and let us know how it goes.

Try not to worry!  CoffeeBeanKate is right–the doctors will know what they’re looking at when they see it, and whether it needs to be looked at further.  I had a breast lump a couple of years ago which was pretty terrifying for me, but the doctors knew what to do (mine turned out to be totally benign but they did biopsy it and put a little tag in so they know later what was looked at).  Hopefully it’s just one of those random lumps!

I’ve had a similar experience. I didn’t know what to think because I’ve had a number of cysts in multiple places. And also because the lump in my armpit appeared at the exact same time that I had really sore breasts. Imagine how worried I was! I got an ultrasound and it turned out to be nothing. 🙂 But as it has been happening again recently, I may go for a second opinion.

I understand your sense of unease, and applaud you getting it checked. I have experienced this several times, but been lucky. I hope the same for you.

amandajane4949:  You have done the right thing by making an appointment. If you have been fighting off any kind of “bug” be aware that there are 20-30 lymph nodes in the underarm. Their function is to filter the lymph fluid at all times, so even if you just have a viral infection, lymph nodes can be swollen.

Here’s hoping, it’s gone by then.

amandajane4949:  I had something similiar, but closer to my breast(naturally I was freaking out). My doctor checked it out and said it felt like nothing, but to watch it and if it still bothered me, I could have an ultrasound done. A few months later I went in for an ultrasound and it was nothing but a cyst or swollen lymph node. To be honest I don’t really remember because they told me it was nothing to worry about. Its still there, and I pay attention to it- just in case cause sometimes you never know. But overall, I feel much better now that I have my answers 🙂

amandajane4949:  Glad to hear it was nothing.

I’ve gotten those before — luckily I was 14 the first time it happened to me so my mom was like — you either have a super super rare form of cancer or it’s probably a cyst/sweat gland. Thank goodness she calmed down this bee. I shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a search engine when something goes wrong.
