This am I woke up around 5:30 am. I imagine SO woke me up by moving or something.
So now I’ve been awake all day. It’s 6 pm now.
The problem is, I have a phobia of being awake too long. If I wake up too early (like before 8. 8:30 is perfect for me), then I need to nap. That makes me feel “safe” bc even if I can’t sleep that night, I’ll have already slept recently. I have a fear that I’ll be awake for too long, be super anxious about it, have so much anxiety I won’t be able to sleep, then I’ll be up 24 hrs and it’ll just be a terrifying, panic ridden disaster. I can’t even remember where this fear came from but it’s been a real problem. I have been worrying about this all day. I tried to take a nap but couldn’t.
Btw, I don’t/won’t/can’t take meds. So taking a sleeping pill is not an option.
Sigh. I feel so down about this fear of mine. I feel like I’m the only weirdo in the world who worries about this.

Yeah, that’s pretty weird. I have issues sometimes with sleep, and I do find that worrying about insomnia causes insomnia, but I don’t have a phobia about waking up too early. Actually, I don’t nap at all because I don’t want to have a hard time going to sleep at a normal hour.

@IheartUFC: I won’t take medication for my anxiety either, but there is an all natural “medicine” that you can get at whole foods that I swear by. It’s called Bach’s Rescue Remedy and it’s absolutely changed my life. I only take it when I really need to, but it helps me to calm down enough to push myself through the anxious moments, rather than taking a pill every day that numbs me to everything. I know that won’t help right now, but maybe you could get it for the next time you feel like this?

Well.. I guess you’re lucky you don’t have a regular job. I have to get up at 6 to get to work for 7:30 sooo yeah. I’d kill to sleep in til 8:30 every day!!
I would, like with anything, take baby steps. Try to go an extra 30 min per day without napping and see how it goes.

Legit, this is an issue that requires CBT. We refer people for these issues so, so often.

Yeah…not sure what your aversion to medication is, but this sounds like a legit medical concern. I would think a small dose of xanax would really be helpful….

Yikes, nope. I’m a pretty good sleeper and literally never have trouble going to sleep at night.
However, I HATE naps! I hate waking up and feeling so out of it, and I hate “losing” several hours of the day. (Even though I have no problem with sitting on my ass watching a movie or something equivalent.) So even if I only slept 4 or 5 hours the night before, I’ll stay up til bedtime rather than take a nap. Maybe I’ll have to get used to them if I have kids though…
Poor you – sounds like you should talk to someone about your anxiety, if you don’t already?

I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder.
Hmm, I was hoping I would feel better if I posted about this, but I feel worse. Just feeling bummed. PMS doesn’t help. I always get anxious every month before my period.

@IheartUFC: people may not have THIS exact fear, but I guarantee everyone has some weird ass hangup – you’re definitely not alone.

@IheartUFC: You’re not alone. I have anxiety (in the form of emetophobia), and I have a serious fear of whales. Like, I won’t ever go to sea world, and just looking at the fake whale tail or a cruise ship freaks. me. the. fuck. out. I hate it.

@IheartUFC: why won’t you take medication for it? I also have anxiety but taking something helps tremendously

I haven’t had a panic attack in a few years, so now I’m even more terrified of panicking than I was before. It’s like I feel out of practice and like I wouldn’t be able to handle it anymore.
I have gotten to this point of not having panicked in 4 years thanks to CBT and Dr. Carbonell’s book and AWARE technique.
And seriously, pms is not helping lol. I am seriously dreading tonight.
