When working I have patients asking all the time if 1. my mother knows I’m working this late (I work overnights) 2. if I started nursing right out of high school (I’m 27) and 3. if I’m “old enough” to be a nurse. Listen, I have 2 bachelor’s and will hopefully be going into grad school in the Spring. Yes, my mother allows me out at night, no this is actually a second career for me and YES I am old enough to be a nurse! I don’t mind getting carded when I’m out and get a drink and sometimes to get into 18+ things, but it’s when it sounds like people are challenging my age as a marker of competency in my job. That annoys the hell out of me. Especially since they don’t even correlate in the first place!

@allinoelle:  I am 25 and I get different ages from people, I say 60% + think I am 19-22ish those people are usually fellow students and in general most people,  and then 40% or less (generally people who know I am married and know a little more about me, then I guess they think my age would more logically be mid twenties)  think I am 23-25ish….I prefer getting ID’d . Only once did someone think I was around 28, I was baffled and insulted (clearly someone was crazy, lol).

I am turning 26 in a couple days and I am constantly mistaken for a 16 or 17 year old. Last month an 18 year-old asked me out on a date! I’m not going to complain though, I’d rather look too young than too old.

I’m 25, Fiance is 28. Most people think we are 16-18 tops.

I’m very tattooed, even with double sleeves I still get ID’d when in the liquor store, and legal age is 19. Most people are inasnely shocked when they hear that Fiance is 29 in two months however. Because when he is clean shaven he could not pass for more than 18. Everyone he works with was confused when we got engaged because any acquaintances thought we were teenagers.

The worst has been house hunting. I find we are not taken as seriously because we look so young. I’ve started to make a habbit of slipping our ages into the conversation about the homes and why I think they fit for us. The first realtor we had was terrible, he kept calling us kids, when my Fiance is actually older than he is.

Oh, the greatest one was getting ID’d for an R rated movie by a kid who goes to school with my 15 year old cousin.

People tell me I look younger than my 17 year old sister, and there is a yen year age difference between us. Then again she looks a bit older than her age.

I’m 45 but most people think I look 25, I’ve always looked young for my age, I remember being asked for I.D. in my 30s.

Personally I love it, at least when I’m in my 50s I’ll probably look 30s.

I think I look my age, and it probably helps that I’m 5’9″, but I get offended when someone thinks that I am any younger than I am! (I am 21) It is usually not a problem, but when I got asked by a 20 year old if I was “going to prom tonight” it pissed me off!!! Lol, I do not want to look like a high schooler!

As a teen, everyone thought that I was older than I was. But for the past few years, some people thought I was older and others thought I was younger.

And sometimes when I’m buying alcohol, I feel like the person who IDs me doesn’t believe that I am 21, haha.

I am never carded for R movies, but I am carded 95% of the time when buying alcohol, and 100% of the time at casinos. While it is annoying for me, my poor Fiance who is 30 doesn’t get carded much anymore. I know that when I’m 30 and I don’t get carded all the time, I am going to wish I was carded more!!! Haha.

I still occasionally get asked what grade I’m in, and I’ve been out of high school for a good number of years now.  It’s okay, I’m not minding it now. I usually let people just assume they know how old I am (and they are generally wrong).

Fiance likes to tease me that I’m lying about the birth date on my I.D., that I can’t actually be THAT age. It’s pretty funny. Laughing

@ltj14:  It was annoying for me too when I was 21. It gets better though as you get older. Now I take it as a compliment when someone cards me.

Yeah, bigtime.  I’m 31 and people think I’m in my late teens or early 20s.  It’s seriously annoying.  Yeah yeah, poor little fresh-faced girl… but when you have a master’s degree and are trying to be taken seriously in your career, it’s a hinderance.  Also, my husband has a beard and definitely looks at least his age (33), so I hope people don’t think he’s a cradle robber.

Oh well – we’ll appreciate it when we’re in our 40s and beyond!

I get it all the time and I just laugh. I had shoulder surgery in May and I was in my gym clothes (big tshirt, mesh shorts, tennis shoes and of course my head band) and my sling and this lady asked me if I was my schools basketball star. Um, no. My husband and I BOTH had terrible colds so I went to Walmart to buy cough syrup and some DayQuil. The lovely little old lady checker asked me if I was at least 18 so I could buy the cough syrup. Really??

I’m 22 by the way.

I have a small frame and have looked the same since I was 13. I look very youthful, which will be a good thing down the line. On average, people think I am 16, but I’m a month away from 22. Especially the kids I work with think I am 16, and when I tell them or their parents my real age, they are surprised. I’m fine with it though, I’ve learned to accept it.
