I have Hidradenitis Supperativa. It is a skin disease that causes lesions and boils in the areas where the apocrine (sweat) glands are more active. The areas that most affect me are arm pits, thighs, groin, and between my breasts. These lesions and boils usually come to a head and leak out pus and blood and the smell is none to pleasant, depending on the length of time between first appearing and coming to a head.
I have been suffering from Hidradenitis since I was 14 (I am now 24) and had two surgeries and I never thought about it till now…what if it ruins my wedding day? What if I have a break out before my wedding?
Does anyone else have a similar disease or fear?

Me Me Me! It doesn’t sound as bad as yours though, but I have Eczema and Psoriasis, and when I sweat it breaks out soooo bad! especially on my hands, wrists, in between my fingers, and inbetween my toes. My elbows are prone to Psoriasis. I asked my MUA about it and she said she could use waterproof concealer to cover it if I have a breakout close to my wedding.

ive got eczema similar to @mydecember – it sucks – my concern is all the scarring i have from past breakouts too – im black so it leaves dark splotches everywhere – under arms, wrists, hands, neck, crook of arms, etc. im desperately trying to find makeup that will cover them. *sigh*

I’m allergic to heat, if i even get a little bit hot i break out into horrible hives. Of course I am planning an outdoor july ceremony, yea i did that to myself. My plan is to take tons of antihistimines so I’m not a red itchy mess during the ceremony.

My suggestion is to make an apointment with your doctor the week before to have any “potential” flare up lanced. I on occasion get boils…I’m pretty sure my dad has it. All I can suggest is trying to remain stress free.

Oh, poor you! I hope that doesn’t give you any trouble at all for your wedding day. You’re definitely not alone in the skin issue department, if that’s any comfort at all.
My endrocrine system doesn’t regulate my hormones properly, so a) my monthly cycles are 100% unpredictable, and b) I am extremely prone to breakouts EVERYWHERE.
My skin was relatively calm this past winter when I ordered my strapless gown (what was I thinking?!), but now it’s flaring up a lot, especially on my upper chest and arms. I’m worried I’ll have to wear a turtleneck over my dress! Seriously, the way it looks right now, a bolero doesn’t even begin to cover it. Eeps!
Hang in there. We’ll all get though this somehow.

not similar – but I get horrible cold sores and in fact broke out with one today. 🙁
I’m also EXTREMELY allergic to poison ivy – which we have in our backyard (and hubby’s been trying to kill) – but two weeks ago, I broke out ALL over my neck and still some on my legs. it’s gone away slowly, but there’s still a little bit showing on my neck.
I’m more scared about the cold sores though – because they’re usually caused by stress and hormones…
i’m sorry about what you are afraid of. and hope all goes well for you!

its good to know that i dont suffer from this kind of situation alone. we all have to remain stress free ladies, that seems to be a trigger. its funny how we have something that we have dealt with our whole lives and didnt think it would affect us, until we begin to plan our weddings…

@MrsH1010: I know this is a year later but I am the same as you. I dont know for sure if I have HS but have had boils under my arms for 1 year. I have been to the doctor 4 times, had anitbiotics, changed my diet, changed deodourants, different soap, had iron supplements, natural treatments. I have one boil under my arm that has been there for almost 5 months, its enough to make me cry. I hope they will heal up by my wedding.
