I’m pretty sure I had it last year.  They said it was either strep or mono.  My strep test came back negative but they said it might have been too early to test so they gave me amoxicillin.  Well, you break out in a full body rash if you take amoxicillin while having mono.  Guess who had a full body rash?

I slept and drank a lot of water.  I had pretty much no appetite though and lost about five pounds.  Really, all I could do was sleep when I could.  I worked a night shift and called out about half of the time I was sick which sucked because I didn’t get paid for some of that.  I was absolutely exhausted though the whole time.  But really, just sleep and keep fluids in you (maybe juice to add calories if you can’t eat much food like me).  And don’t take amoxicillin.

Edit: I say I’m pretty sure I had it because I didn’t trust the doctor after giving me that medication plus I’m afraid of needles and I knew it was a blood test.  But I was sick for about 3 weeks or so.

UGH mono sucks! You have to just let the virus run it’s course and really take it easy… it can put stress on your spleen so taking it as easy as you can is important.

I got mono when I worked at the hospital and it stunk. It does go away though and you shouldn’t have to worry about a flare up again.. sometimes one or two in the year to follow but I didn’t have any.

@runsyellowlites: I didn’t have any either.  Although for a while every time my throat got sore and I started to feel overly tired I got really nervous it was coming back again because I was pretty much sleeping and working for those three weeks and nothing else.  All of my free time was spent sleeping it off.

Also, some of my appetite loss was due to the mono but some of it was also due to that horrible reaction to the amoxicillin.  I was incredibly nauseous from the medication.

I had mono sophomore year of high school, I missed a ton of school and work. I was just so drained. There wasn’t anything they could do so you just have to let it go through your system, unfortunately.

Then again, I did have bronchitis and pneumonia at the same time, so maybe that’s why I was so miserable… lol

Luckily most people who get mono are terribly ill, so you ought to feel better soon. Here’s hoping you recover quickly!

Ugh, that sucks. I had mono when I was a sophomore in high school. The best advice I can give you is to allow yourself to rest. The thing with mono is that you are literally tired all the time, even if you sleep 24 hours a day. You need to take care of yourself, so take time off work and don’t push yourself too hard.

I just got diagnosed with mono too. A couple of weeks ago I had a horrible sore throat, fever, aches and pains, I figured it was the flu and thought nothing of it. But I was so tired all the time, and the tiredness stuck around after all the other symptoms went away. Then a couple of nights ago my fever came back, really high, and I broke out in hives and my lips and throat swelled up (we’re not sure if those are connected to the mono or not) and SO was afraid I’d stop breathing so he took me to the ER. They did some bloodwork and tests and behold, my mono test came back positive. No meds for it, doc said I just have to ride it out and the most important things to do are get lots of fluids and a LOT of sleep. Like ten hours per night. So I’ve been trying to get extra sleep each night and I drink a lot of water and tea. I do feel a little better. SO already had mono in high school and he doesn’t seem worried about having it again so he’s still kissing me πŸ™‚ So yeah, fluids and sleep seem to help. I hope you feel better soon!

Was wondering how I’d never heard of such an illness if all of you have but I guess it’s just my silly English ways because Google tells me you mean Glandular Fever. Sorry to hear that. Get well soon!

Ugh… I’ve had it twice…first time I didn’t even know it, second time I wanted to die. Fiance had it a few years ago and got really sick πŸ™

I hope you feel better soon!
