It’s probably too late to reduce/cancel these items so why not charge the expenses on a credit card and hope to pay it off with the cash gifts you get at your wedding?

If you’re wearing a long dress then wear shoes you already have, nobody is going to see them anyway.

Can you cancel any home services?  We got rid of cable and are now saving over $100 a month.

What about finding a cheaper officiant?  8 weeks should be plenty of time to find one and get the vows in order.

Can you downgrade the suits at all?  Suits are suits and every little added item costs money.  Can you get a simpler vest, shirt or tie to save money on the rental?

Finally, there is always the grocery chop.  I am sure you can find some savings somewhere on your grocery bill.

I would use a credit card as a last resort.

@DarthBetty:  Yes, see if your family can make the payments now and then pay them with your wedding gifts. That’s a great idea!

Cut something at the venue to cut the bill?  Or ask for a more extended payment plan.

Also go through your home and try to sell things to raise money or take on odd jobs for cash.

Can either of you get a temp job? Or, if you live near a university, do what I did in college and complete simple studies for money. I made enough to cover mad money pretty easily.

@Rachael1287:  most research universities depend on students and people in the community for research participants. I did things like surveys about my mood, playing brain games, studies on how we learn, etc. They were not invasive and paid around $10 each. Medical studies are more intense and invasive but pay better. This is all in the USA though, not sure how research is done there.

If you don’t have the ability to get a loan from family or a bank, you pretty much have two choices: Cut Back or Make More Money.

Are there places you can cut costs from the wedding budget? Can you get in touch with the venue and see if you can switch to a cheaper entree or go from an open bar to a beer and wine bar? Cut back on flowers? Favors? Jewelry and shoes?

Or if you need to make more money – which for me is always more difficult – you could try to sell some valuables, look for odd jobs on the weekends or participate in the market research studies a PP mentioned.

I’m sorry you’re going through this and I’m sure it’s very stressful. But I’m sure you can find a solution through some combination of cutting back and making more money.
