I’m so curious every time I hear about sweet tea.  How does it compare to Canadian iced tea?  (Which is different from American iced tea)

@AB Bride:  Depends.  How is it prepared in Canada?  Wikipedia is saying that most of it is from powdered mix there, and I don’t want to assume it’s correct.

Southeren sweet tea is freshly brewed, with a lot of sugar added in when the tea is still hot, then allowed to cool.  That way, the sugar actually dissolves.  In the South, you have to specify in a restaurant whether you want sweet or unsweet tea.  In most of the rest of the country, unsweetened tea is all they have, and you have to add sugar or sweetener yourself.

@strawbabies:  I find the powered, fountain and bottled stuff all taste quite similar.  Most of it is similar to lemon Snapple (which is no longer available here), although not all have the lemon.  I’m not sure if your other bottled stuff is the same as ours.  All I know is when iced tea isn’t sweetened in restaurants the waiter/waitress will warn you it’s ‘American-style iced tea’.

Does sweet tea taste like Snapple (maybe without the lemon) or is it different?

You’re hilarious! How about a little POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME!!!!

I love sweet tea too but hardly ever drink it. I try to avoid caffeine and when I have it I’m wired! But it’s soooooo good!

Your original post is pretty much me on cookies… I normally talk too fast for anybody to understand as it is. Imagine somebody who normally talks at such a high rate of speed on a sugar high. I literally bounce off the walls! My sister is a Type 1 diabetic and acts pretty crazy when she has any sugar before the insulin kicks in.

I really want to go mow down on a batch of chocolate chip cookies now… Dang it!

@AB Bride:  Sweet tea doesn’t taste like bottled tea. It tastes more syrupy. I honestly can’t think of anything it tastes like other than sugar…Like…imagine if you had normal chamomile or something, added 5 spoons of sugar, and let it get cold. The powdered and bottled teas are lemony, which Southern sweet tea isn’t by nature. You can add lemon if you want.
