Oh my goodness. I am SO livid right now I am shaking. Okay, let’s be honest, it’s been an hour so I’m not actually physically shaking anymore but I am still really really mad.
I work with kids with special need. Today I had one of them, we went bowling and then to mcdonalds. Everything was going well and we were having a good time.
This kid definitely has some social issues (ie no filter whatsoever) and he doesn’t always know where and when to say what. He doesn’t process the world like the rest of us.
So he asks if he can go get a seat. I say ok. The goal in life is independence and this was a good exersize. Brilliant.
So he goes and sits, near some people (at a long table that had a ton of empty seats, he didn’t go sit down at their booth or anything) their kid is standing on the bar stool. Apparently, my charge is concerned for the kids well being (he says he was afraid he was goin to fall) so he innocently, from like 5 feet away, says “excuse me do you know that your kids is standing on the bar stool” they ignore him so I start to head his way to get him to stop (because I know he won’t on his own, he just doesn’t know better) I was like not even 5 feet away from them , so 10 from him. In five seconds, he would have been out of their hair, it was pretty obvious by the look on my face that I was going to stop him from bothering them.
The other kids mom stands up while I’m walking over and stands in front of me and starts talking. You will not believe what came out of her mouth. I know I didn’t.
Before I tell you, let’s play pretend for a minute. Pretend you are sitting in a fast good restaurant at a table clearly meant for 20 with your family of four. A kid sits down at the other end of the table and tells you something about what the child is doing. Do you:
a)just don’t engage
b)politely tell the strange child that it’s okay, you have it under control
c)tell the kid to mind his own business
Personaly, I avoid conflict so I would probably say nothing. But realistically, any of the above would be fine and everyone’s life could have gone on just the same.
But no. This perfect stranger stands up, blocks me and proceeds to tell me that she is part of the Hells angels along with her husband and I better get my kid to leave their kid alone or they are goin to have to do something about it.
Floored. Just floored. I persuaded my charge to leave with me without to much fuss and informed the manger on our way out the door (quickly.. Very quickly.)
I just cannot even believe it. I am so disappointed in humans right now. I mean seriously. I have seen WAY more annoying stuff in public and I’ve never even commented, let alone alluded to threatening a child.
Am I nuts for being so mad or was this as uncalled for as I perceived it to be?
