Don’t worry! I had them when I was about 29 and then never again. My doctor gave me prednisone and it worked right away. Try not to worry-stress is not good for shingles:)

YIKES! My mother got them a few years back and it was awful!  Hopefully they won’t be bad since you’re really young!  I remember how painful she told me it was…good luck!

Whoever had chicken pox can get shingles!! Asked the dr y. He said something like, its just another part of the chicken pox, like a residue that stays in our bodies after the chicken pox leaves. Im REALLY paraphrasing there, but thats the gist of it. So yes they are very common. I know alot of people who got them. Some even on their face!!

I had the chicken pox when I was little so unfortunately I can get it too. Hope not though!!

I hope u feel better!!!

I’ve had them 3 times in the last 2 years and I’m only 31 (it’s been a pretty stressful period in my life).

Each time I’ve had them, they were on my face near my eye and you are right they hurt like crazy.  But once you’re on meds the pain usually goes away in a few days.

Advil and lots of rest really helped me.

Sorry you are going through this and I hope you feel better soon!

My Future Mother-In-Law has shingles as we speak. She’s not a happy camper.

Aww…I’m sorry, that sucks! My roommate in college had shingles her freshman year and I remember it being super scary for her because our inept health services had no idea what they were so they started biopsy-ing her face pretty much without her consent. She was 19 when she got them, and she’s now 26 and hasn’t had them since. So, rare, but totally not unheard of to get them so young. I hope you feel better soon!!

My mom just had shingles recently. It came out on her back. She said it was more painful than childbirth 🙁 Although, she said that she felt so much better almost immediately after they figured out what she had and she started on the meds.

Feel better soon!

I had shingles when I was 16. They SUCKED! My grandma had it on her face last year or the year before and it ended up in her ear. Her doctor said he’s heard of people committing suicide when it’s in their ear because it is so painful 🙁   I hope you feel better soon….

@OhBeeHive84: I had them a while back (like march-ish) but really mild-ly. And it showed up because I had an allergic reaction to internal stitches, and to the bandaid glue. It was terrible. I’m so sorry 🙁

I guess alot of people dont know this but they do have a vaccine for shingles now. I dont know if you can get it after you have had shingles but I know they say if you have had chicken pox to get the shot so I would ask the doctor about it next time your there. I am so sorry your not feeling well I have heard its painful I hope you feel better soon

@miss sparkly cat:I actually asked my pharmacist about that. He said they dont recommend the vaccine to people until they reach their 50’s or 60’s. I guess the elderly at that age get them alot more. This subject came up because a elderly man came in and there was a good discussion in the pharmacy about it.

But maybe she can still ask her dr. Maybe I heard wrong.
