It’s such a good idea I’m almost peeing myself with excitement to get to work on it. Oh crap, I just did pee myself. 🙂 🙂
I’ve decided to make a toss bouquet with silk flowers for the reception, for obvious reasons (my real one is huge and cost trillions of dollars). I was b*tching to my dad about how much the flowers cost, and he basically told me to get over it, smile, be happy, and go all out on the toss bouquet since I’m too late to change my mind and DIY any of the other bouquets. “You can make it funny if you want to!” he said.
I’m like how in the hell do you make a toss bouquet funny? Put live wires in there so whoever catches it gets shocked? Water balloon? Egg??
AND THEN IT HIT ME! I WILL PUT IT ON A PARACHUTE!!!!!!
This will be no easy task, mind you. Parachutes can be fickle, and if it doesn’t work, I will be a sad pinkflemingo 🙁 My plan is coming together though. I went on some rocketeering websites to learn how to make a halfway decent parachute that isn’t from a grocery bag. Looks like an old ugly nylon jacket will be making the ultimate sacrifice for my 6-panel 2-foot-diameter chute. For the cords, I’ll use ribbon to match the wedding colors, and the nylon is a light green that should work with the colors too. Why does the chute need to match? Well, that’s the best part of the idea! Once it’s attached to the bouquet, I’ll “pack” it by wrapping it somehow around the stems, maybe with a little pin to hold it together, so it looks totally innocuous. Then right before I throw it, I’ll pull the little pin out and throw it high in the air, and it can drift down flowers-down to the waiting ladies below. Would make for some AWESOME pictures!
I think my first task will be to make the chute itself and test it on a variety of items of different weights. Then when I figure out what my max weight is for it to fall slow enough to be funny, I’ll make the bouquet and aim for that weight.
I really hope this works. Our website is funny, our programs are funny, even our “welcome to our wedding” framed photo is funny. This would just be the icing on the cake … though there’s nothing funny about the actual icing on our cake. it’s just delicious.
What do you think? Any tips or ideas? I can’t wait to get to work and share how this turns out!!!!!
