- Wedding: September 2012
I’ll start off by saying that this is going to be one big complaint from me. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about how one of my managers was being a jerk to me at my new job. I got hired just a month ago at my new job, a sporting goods store. We just moved from KY to MI after our wedding, so I think we were here only a couple of weeks before I started there. We moved into our house a few days before I started there.
I’ve had little to no training with a lot of things in my job. Today was the third day that I’ve been scheduled to work the freight truck by myself, in my department. I’ve been doing my best to learn everything that I can, but it’s kinda hard when I haven’t trained with anyone on how to process everything. So I just started taking racks out to the floor and unloading as much as I could. I also have to work as a back-up cashier so I have to run up to the front quite a few times a day when we get busy.
Today when the lead associate in my department came in, she pretty much gave me a “talking to.” She went on to tell me that truck is a big deal, and asked me how many racks I had ran out to the floor. When I told her I did 2, she told me, “Well, you should have had 4 or 5 done by now. You have to sweat when you’re back here. We just feel like you should know better by now and you should be much faster.” My response to that was, “Well I haven’t trained with anyone on how to process the truck any faster..” and she pretty much ignored that and told me that I should still be faster at it by now. Whatever.
I had to cover the footwear department while they took their lunch, so she told me to start sensoring some hoodies while I was over there, since it would be slow. So apparently I put the wrong sensor on instead of an ink tag, it happens. She asks me, “So what gets sensored?” to which I responded, “19.99 or is it 24.99 & up?” Her response was, “I don’t know, you tell me. You’ve been here for like a month.” She then told me I tagged it wrong, and walked with me to look at the sheet that sets the standards for tags. She said, “I just don’t know what else to say to make you learn it.” and I told her that whenever I have to ask questions, I always get attitude about it from whoever I have to ask. She ignored that comment as well. Point taken.
When I needed help finding shoes a customer wanted, considering I don’t work in & am not trained for footwear, she acted like that was a big deal as well. She later gave me a big trash bin that was full of gloves and hats that needed to go out and told me it should only take me an hour. Yeah, maybe it would.. but I kept being called to the front to run a register. She had an attitude about that as well and told me that I need to get off of the register as soon as possible..
So yeah, maybe I am making this out to be more than it is, but she talked to me like I was a piece of crap. I have been working my butt off, I always show up to work, even on crazy black friday hours (some people didn’t show up at all!) but it still seems like I can’t win for losing. My department manager is just as bad.. I’m pretty sure they were talking about me yesterday, because they were both staring at me & quit talking when I came around the corner.
Extra money is good, but being treated like crap for minimum wage isn’t working out to well for me. I’ve been looking for another job for the past week or so and I just hope & pray I can find something soon! This place expects me to know how to do everything, when nobody wants to show me. I’m tired of wanting to bawl everytime I leave work. 🙁
