@Mrs.Vowrenewal:

Whatever you say. Bottom line is – if you are trying to promote tolerance you might want to try it yourself. Just because there are some close minded Christians does not mean that the vast majority of us are. To say so is generalizing and that’s not cool!

This is great. All of it. I don’t have anything political to say…I’m a Jewish Democrat, so I definitely wear my heart on my sleeve with this issue. HOWEVER, I do believe that everyone has a right to their opinion…that does not mean that we should base our laws and ethics as a nation on those beliefs.

PS, these signs = priceless.

Ugh. Seriously? I’m sorry, but I don’t see Jewish people going in the Christian thread and saying they’re offended for all the talk about Jesus. Why is it ok for people to come in this section and do it?

And I’m sorry, but if you don’t like that the majority of people in your religion treat a minority unfairly, then do something about it and be a positive change your community. The only Christians who ever say anything to me and my future wife are the ones who tell us they can never accept our relationship (or say something even worse…). Just once it would be nice to hear a Christian tell me they support me and are willing to stand up to their fellow Christians for me instead of complain at how they are misunderstood. Boo hoo.

This video came out during Prop 8 in California … I know it’s old, but I love it. NPH’s part at the end is my favorite 😀

ps – Christian here too, and darned supportive of gay marriage! Not going to debate it in a thread though … if anyone has questions on that particular thing, you’re welcome to PM me, and if life ever lets up, I’ll try to reply, haha.

@bellagio: If I knew you I would have your back 100%. It’s wrong for others to judge period! I’m not defending Christianity or saying everyone should follow it. If you do, cool ,if not then hey it’s your life that’s cool too!

My point was simply that not all of us bash gay marriage so it’s unfair to tear apart our beliefs to validate yours. That’s it.

@basketballwifetobe: Thanks, I wasn’t targeting your posts specifically, more the other poster that got it all started. And I was kind of generalizing since a lot of threads that start out nice end up with an argument about who’s more vicitimized, and it’s irritating. 😉 I agree with you.

P.S. I am a Black conservative, Christian, marrying a conservative Irish boy. Trust and believe I have dealt with tons of discrimenation and I’ve also stood up to those who I have witnessed discrimenating against people. So I am trying to make a change in my community.

@June162012: Here’s my problem with someone being against gay marriage because of the Leviticus verse:

1. Round haircuts: Leviticus 19:27: “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.” See you in Hell, Beatles… and/or kids with bowl cuts.

2. Pigs, (and Football): Leviticus 11:8 (which is discussing pigs): “You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.”  I don’t know about you, but I loooove bacon.

3. Fortune Telling: Leviticus 19:31:  “Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” The penalty for that? Check Leviticus 20:6: “As for the person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.” Ever read your horoscope, or a fortune cookie?

4. Polyester, or any other fabric blends:  Leviticus 19:19:  “You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.”

5. Wearing Gold and/or Pearls: 1 Timothy 2:9: “Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.”

6. Shellfish: Leviticus 11:10: “But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you.”

If you’re going to ignore the section of Leviticus that bans pork, shellfish, round haircuts, polyester and football, how can you possibly turn around and quote Leviticus 18:22 (“You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”) as irrefutable law?

Anyway, back on topic:

OP, DH and I both thank you for the laugh.

@Mrs.Vowrenewal: It’s not your fault. Unfortunately there are some crappy people in the world. I wouldn’t even invest any energy in trying to figure cray cray people like that out.
