hey i am due to get married in a year. I am at the moment just looking at ideas and seeing what i want etc…. I have been looking through the boards at center pieaces ideas and love most of them. I dont like the idea of flowers. I love flowers dont get me wrong but all i can imagine is the amount of flowers having to die because of my wedding day. my friend made th suggestion at getting small potted plants that my family can take home. was just wondering has any of the bees heard of this before? or is it a crap idea?
P.S i am having a brooch bouquet and my girlies are having small brooch bouquets.

I think the potted plant idea is good! We are using branches with a few little white flowers in vases. Simple, rustic, and easy.

You can use individually potted plants or get small plants and place them together so each guest gets to take one home. This is called a breakaway centerpiece.
or use larger plants

That’s such a cute idea (and it would provide ready-made wedding favors).

@trinity_542: We are getting small potted ivies (symbolic of fidelity) and putting them in the center of the table, with a few little clear/iridescent stones scattered around the base. We are also putting framed family photos on the tables – our parents’ wedding pictures, pics of Fiance, myself and siblings as kids, pics of us together as a couple, etc. The guests will be invited to take the ivies home as a keepsake (we’re also doing little candy favors, since we are planning on doing just one ivy per table, not one per guest), and of course we’ll be keeping the photos, so we feel pretty good about not being wasteful with the centerpieces. Even the little stones can probably be reused (an aquarium, maybe?) if we collect them at the end of the night.

Love the potted plant idea! I think orchids would look really elegant. I also saw a bee on here a few months back who made air plant terrariums which looked awesome.

I also love the potted plant idea! They look so darling and won’t die! I was totally going to do it, but after looking at my budget, I decided to make flowers instead.

The potted plant idea is really cool! You could also just use fake flowers.

I’m doing paper bouquets and we’re not having flowers. We’re using mason jars as the table numbers and filling them with rose metals. Other than than, no flowers.
