I really want to know how this goes. I’m sure that all of this hard work will pay off and you’ll find your perfect photographer.

82? That’s insane!

I originally had about 5 in mind, but did end up contacting more as I got emails back that they were booked for my date.

FWIW, in my area us photographers are all pretty good friends and we get together each week for coffee. We all chat about inquires we’ve got coming in and such, so we always know when someone has just emailed everyone on the list and not emailed who they specifically liked.  All of us have such different styles/prices that it’s pretty obvious when someone isn’t serious about us and they’re just price shopping because they email us all.

If they don’t have good images on their website, and without some sort of basic starter price, then they aren’t worth emailing…#1, they either suck, or #2, they are way over priced.  Good photographers have a descent display of work on their sites.  I show full wedding samples at consultations with my clients.  I also provide a basic starter price and package content on my site.

82? Seriously? Not trying to be rude, but why wouldn’t you just pick favorites, contact them, see if they work for your budget/vision, and then move on if they don’t? There has to be a range oh how interested you are in these photographers with 82 of them! I think that is just too much to process at once without getting confused.

I probably emailed about 8-10 photographers initially, but many of them were eliminated as soon as I got a price list (I have expensive taste in photography!)

I’m not trying to be rude either, but you are wasting a lot of people’s time – including your own.  End result you have some huge impersonal spreadsheet with names and numbers on it, and photography is probably the most personal service you will hire for your wedding.  To each their own though.

omg I think that’s nuts. I looked at maybe a dozen or so photographers, emailed about five, and met only three.

I think 82 is a bit nuts, did you look at all the websites, reviews, and portfolios? I think that is crazy and too long of a list. You should have edited it down to the ones in your price range whom you like. Good luck with the responses.

I did a bunch as well – most don’t have availability on their websites, and I asked every single one about negotiation of prices.

I only did 3. But photography was on the bottom of my list 😛 We went with my FI’s favorite (and mine as well). He had the highest rating on yelp and had an amazing portfolio

I had a hard time picking, i think i contacted about 10, in my emails I made sure to say I was just looking for prices, wanted to see what/who was available then I would pick from there and there wasnt any confusion that I wanted to book them or not.

I don’t think it is wasting anyone’s time, especially her own. She said she likes every portfolio that she contacted, however what if 90% are out of her price range? If they had their prices listed, she wouldn’t have to waste their time.

Even though I wouldn’t have done it to that extreme (honestly I’m sure it could have been cut in half), but I looked for a videographer for two months and couldn’t find one. I went back two months later to try again, and I’m pretty sure I accidentally contacted some of the same people again, because I just couldn’t remember.

WOW WOW WOW… 82 that is a lot. I only had to do one because it is a family friend who does all of our events. But I will give a long distance high five for putting in the effort.

@MeiFrancis:  Not sure if you found someone already, but my BF’s brother got married in 2011 in Central Park and they had Fernando Colon as a photographer (http://www.fernandocolon.com/), and the photos looked great!  Looks like he does mainly fashion/editorial shoots, but their pictures were artsitic, but not super fashiony.  Good luck with your search!
