First off welcome and congratulations!

As far as where to start, theknot.com has a great checklist of what to do when, I’d also recommend a good wedding planning binder.

Since you know your date, I’d suggest finding a venue first so you can secure your date. The other vendors who tend to book up early are DJs/bands, caterers, and photographers.

Good luck and happy planning!

I agree with MsYellowJacket…first set your budget. After that, book all the items that get booked quickly:

Venue
Photographer
Videographer
Caterer

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations!  This is a very happy and exciting time.

Talk budget, guest list (just an approximate number), and general feel of the wedding (formal vs casual).  This will help narrow down where to find a venue for your ceremony & reception.  No sense in looking at places that only hold 75 if you are talking 200 people, and if you want formal why look at garden venues.  Anywho after that start talking dates.

Enjoy!

Congrats!! Everyone has given some great advice, and I would definitely echo mshoagie: that you kind of have to start with budget, guest list and overall feeling when choosing your venue and go from there!
