- Wedding: September 2012
ok…I know that some of us have FMILs that drive us NUTS….Mine is starting to get to me and I just need to let out some anger so I don’t hurt anybody.
First, the DAY AFTER FI and I got engaged we went to his family’s house for dinner to announce the engagement, I was still basking in my newly engaged glow and loving all of the “I can’t wait until the wedding!” comments. Do you know what one of the first things FMIL said to me was??? “Now, you’d better not be a bridezilla! Because if you do, we have a lot of people in the family to tell you!” She keeps freakin’ telling me this EVERYTIME I SEE HER!! Now I know none of you know me, but I am a naturally quiet person who tries to be nice and this bridezilla comment is starting to piss me off!
Second, she is FREAKING OUT about the invitation stamps!!!! I am DIYing my invitations since I have 2 years to play with. FMIL keeps telling me that I can’t forget about stamps because that will be a major cost (We will have about 150 invitations). OK, I understand stamps for the invitations and RSVPs cost money, but when you’re spending a good chunk of money on everything else, stamps are not that big of a deal. She is also telling me that I should buy the stamps NOW! The invitations aren’t going out for two more years!
Third, she thinks we can have the wedding for under $10,000, which I know is a lot of money, but in the area I live, a $10,000 wedding isn’t much. She lives in a small town and to her $10,000 is a lot. Because of this, she will not help pay for ANYTHING. I know technically she doesn’t have to, but FI is an only child, so you would think she would be willing to help pay for something since she can afford it.
Also, she may not come to our engagement party this summer because she wants to go on vacation! She hasn’t made a decision yet.
There is so much more, but I’m tired and getting angry. I know I must sound like a total snob, but I promise I’m not….I just have a picture of what I want and everybody is on board but her! I just needed to get this off my chest and I knew I could count on the bees to lend an ear!
