I think a grey diamond or spinel would be beautiful and super sparkly while offering the contrast you’re going for. That said, I’m partial to the sparkle of blue diamonds 🙂

Check out brown diamonds! I have a C7 cognac colored brown diamond and it is a lovely dark shade, but has a brilliant sparkle.

I think the black looks very cool and the white fairly generic, although the sparkle would be wonderful. Different colours would also be pretty!

lavenderstone :  If you want to be unique and not like every other girl, get black…you may regret being boring and just getting white.

Splodge2003 :  No problem. I’m a good enabler. If you go with a spinel, make sure to fine a precision cut spinel. Here are a few good sellers.

I have a black diamond engagement ring and i don’t regret it, even a year later. The few things to ask yourself before getting one is how important is it to you that people are going to just “know” it’s an engagement ring, how important is it that it is “high quality”, how important is it to you people know it’s a diamond?  I realize my ring is just a highly inclusioned diamond they heated to make black and it doesn’t look like what people expect of an engagement ring, but those things don’t matter to me.

If you haven’t seen one in person, I urge you to do so. I think they look more wet than an onyx and since they are diamonds they are harder as well. Another thing that I didn’t know at the time is that black diamonds weigh more than clear so a 1 caret black will be about 75% of the size of a 1 caret white one. Lastly, an enhanced black diamond isgoing to be a lot cheaper than a white.

lavenderstone :  I agree with PPs and think you should get a gray spinel instead. That way you would still get sparkle, but can still get a deeper colored stone with a nice contrast to the white of the setting.
