Yeah, I think you’re expecting too much. At least they’re not saying it’s “cute”

@SweetieP:  Don’t you love that the bee can knock some sense into us when we need it ? 🙂 I’m not engaged yet, but I know that my SO is getting me a classic round solitaire. I think that they’re so beautiful. FWIW, whenever anyone shows me their ering in real life my reaction is usually “ohh that’s so pretty!” No one will ever love our rings as much as we do, simply because they mean so much to us :).

I think you just explained things when you said that many of your friends had halo rings. In your OP, it sounded like YOU were the one doubting your ring and reading too much that wasn’t there into other people’s reactions to it. “Pretty” is most definitely a compliment, and with a solitaire there just isn’t much more to say (I have one myself so I understand). Don’t feel like you have to be part of a trend; enjoy what you have and don’t feel pressured to conform to what others think is beautiful. A solitaire is timeless, elegant and will never be dated, and you chose it because it was right for YOU.

I have a solitaire with a pave band. People see my ring and say “That’s pretty or Ooooh, he did well”. My ring is a knockout but frankly, I don’t expect others to say anything. I mean…it’s my ring. It’s also the most common shape. I don’t expect it to bowl others over…just me.

I have a crazy blingy pave halo and I get the same comments!

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with a solitaire engagement ring.  They are the epitome of classic – they will never go out of style!  I have one and I absolutely love it.

@TaurianDoll: – here you post a ring and people ask “so what’s the carat/cut/clarity”? but in real life, no one cares nor will they ask. they just see something shiny and move on with their lives.

That is so true!!! I’ve never been asked those questions before in person.

I have a halo and rarely get a glowing review.  Several people just plain didn’t say ANYTHING when I showed it to them, I got one “oh, that’s different”, and several people called it dainty (it’s not  a large ring).  To me, all these reactions were fine.  I love my ring.  I think you’re expecting too much from people.  Unless they’re really close to you, they will most likely not rave about it too much.  Like several above me already said, to most people it’s just another diamond ring.

@SweetieP: I would actually love a dismissive ‘Oh that’s pretty.’ I’ve gotten blank stares, long pauses, raised eyebrows and ‘Oh how unique’. My ring is a half eternity band with Canadian diamonds. The rudest comment ‘What a lovely wedding band, will you get another ring for an anniverisary?’ I smiled sweetly and walked away. Some people’s children!

If you love it, that’s all that matters!

Edit: I’m not quite sure what I’ve done to get the font like that. My apologies!

@MrsPanda99:  I know this is slightly off-topic, but since I happen to like halos and lots of you are saying that halos are super “trendy”, my mom has been married to my dad for 29 years and has a double halo ring.  It’s a different style of halo, yes, but it’s a double halo.  I don’t think a halo will necessarily “date” anyone’s ring.

@RenoSweeney24:  Guess we agree to disagree 🙂 There is nothing more personal than style.

@SweetieP:  Hey! I get the exact same response as you do (outside of weddingbee). I’m recently engaged and have a 1.55 ct round brilliant solitaire w/a plain platinum band.

I have a 1k princess cut solitaire with a princess cut band and I feel like some people judge me for having a boring ring, but I don’t care! I love it! I love how everything looks square and matches together lol
